You should use Recordbox and USB sticks IMO if you have CDJs that can work with that.

Otherwise Traktor is a better choice because you will not need to buy a hardware soundcard as your mixer is traktor certified and works as a soundcard. You will only need to buy the Traktor software…..

This mixer is NOT traktor certified, only DJM-850/900 are.

That is true, sorry for not being clear on that point!
And thank you for clearing it out.

Still IMO it is better to use Recordbox that is free to the Pio CDJ 850’s

The mixers that are certified by Traktor (DJM850 900 Denon X600 x1600 x1700 and so on)
will work the way that the soundcard in the mixer works directly with Traktor.
You connect the mixer to your computer and it sends the sound to the mixer
(the mixer also works as MIDI with Traktor so does the CDJs if they have MIDI)

But with the DJM600 wich has no soundcard nore MIDI you will have to buy a Native Instruments soundcard to get the sound to the mixer. Then you conect the NI Soundcard to the mixer and the laptop the same way SSL works.

For more info take a look at Native Instruments site:
    http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/products/?category=1303

I hope that you understand my explonation, otherwise ask again 🙂

basically heres the situation… i have been using a midi controller for over a year now and some opportunites have come up to dj abroad in a few months. i need to be able to use cdjs in clubs and understand how it all works! i had in mind what i wanted but they are really expensive so..

    My needs are:

    1) cdjs that will do the job to give me the knowledge

    2) work on the same kind of prinicple as club equipment

I already have a pioneer djm 600 so all i need is cdjs and a software which i think is going to be traktor as i am familiar with it! appreciate your help and comments! thanks

    Then there is many options!
1 Keep the DJM600 and get a pair of CDJs (Denon S1200/S3700/SC3900 Pio CDJ350/400/850/900/1000/2000)
2 Get rid of the outdated DJM600 and get modern gear that can handle USBsticks and MIDI
    (Denon s1200/S3700/MC3900 + x120/X600/X1600/X1700 Pioneer CDJ400/CDJ850/900/2000 + DJM400/850/900/2000)

Ask yourself if you are going to use CD or USB and look at your wallet.
Is it possible to run USB sticks in the CDJs at the club or is it only CD (CDJ1000’s for example)
If you must run CDs in the club you do not need to be able to run USB sticks at home but if the club CDJs could run USB sticks that is a more modern way to keep your music librory in. So then you should IMO be able to play from USB sticks at your home equipment as well. That way you do not need to record CDs…..

thanks for the quick reply! I am going to continue using my laptop to dj as i think it makes song choice much easier and is the future! I am going to purchase the new traktor and will keep my djm 600 because it still has the features that i would use in a club! so really i just need ‘cheap’ cdjs that work with both of them and have similar features and club ones?

USB is not a great importance as i would be using my laptop to dj but would also learn how to dj with just cdjs if i had to!
    what do you recommend?

You could then go for a pair of Denon SC2000’s that just works as MIDI controllers but you will have a simular workflow as in a club. If you need to be able to run CDs as well you have the Denon S12000 Pioneer CDH350/400
That is what I recommend in the first place but you could get a cheaper CDJ as well (but I would not recommend any because IMO they are crap) just if you are going to run from your laptop you eather need MIDI or Cd but with CD you need a DVS (Timecode system) Traktor scratch pro with ´NI Traktor hardware soundcard or SSL for example

if CDJ-style workflow is what you need maybe a pair of second-hand CDJ-800MK2’s would be a viable option to keep things on the thrifty side
