KeymasterFor me a 14″ would be perfect! I find the 13″ a bit small and the 15″ a bit big. Bear in mind, though, that you get a resolution of 1440 by 900 on a 15 which is better than the 1280 x 800 on the 13 for DJ software.

MemberI went for a 15″ recently. Personally, I’m hardly ever going to take mine out with me, so I felt it wasn’t worth thinking about the 13″.
One thing I would advise – make the most of the educational discount. A close friend of mine is at University studying to be a nurse. I told Apple that I was buying it for her as a birthday present and after giving a few basic details such as what she was studying and where, I saved about £200!!

Looking at the Apple store, I don’t even see a 14″ inch Mac Book.
So looks like I may go with the 13″.April 2, 2012 at 6:50 pm #17804VinnyBlanc
ParticipantAs Phil said a “14 would be perfect”…but they don’t make it.
I have a 13″ and wish I had a 15″.April 2, 2012 at 6:54 pm #17805djsubculture@gmail.com
ParticipantScreen resolution too small?
And lastly, how are MACs when it comes to upgrades? When I get a MBP, I wanted to ditch the DVD drive and go with a second HDD in it’s place.

ParticipantResolution is fine its more of an issue with Serato Itch when using a 4 deck controller. I’m waiting on a fix so that I can diable decks 3/4 to free up a lot more space for file browsing etc. Currently, even if not utilizing the 3rd and 4th deck they remain there and taunt you!

ParticipantOk, it’s an Itch issue. So I should be good with four deck mixing in Traktor Pro.

ParticipantDouble check with Phil. I thought I remembered him saying that Traktor doesn’t particularly use the screen real estate well. I could be wrong though) He tested on the 13″MBP.

KeymasterI was saying in an ideal world a 14″ would be great for me 🙂

ParticipantI have a Macbook 13″ and for only 2 decks it’s perfect for Traktor but with 4 decks the browser window is almost not visible. With VDJ I have my own custom made skin that has plenty of room for browser. I really badly want an 15″ just for the extra screen space. If you plan on using 4 decks or even the remix decks in Traktor 2.5 I highly recommend you get a 15″.
My friend DJ has an MB 15″ and even though he never uses 4 deck he still has them on screen because they don’t take away from what he needs visible on the screen.April 4, 2012 at 3:24 pm #17942Edward Onaci
ParticipantI currently have a 13″ and use two decks (SSL & Itch)… that works for me, but i’m going to upgrade to a 15″ as soon as i’m able. I don’t like having everything crunched into such a small space.

15″ MBP is out of my budget. If 13″ is really that much of a problem, Then I’ll guess I’ll just have to get a 15″ PC laptop.

MemberYeah, so heres a resolution breakdown.
13″ – Super portable, nice screen res, longer battery
15″ – Kinda portable, larger screen res, long battery
17″ – Not really portable, super large screen res, kinda long batteryI’ve got a 13″ i7 and I use Traktor with 2 decks and 2 sample and it works like a charm. But as others have said above, its kinda cramped with 4 decks fully expanded so if that is a really big issue, I would stick with a 13″.

Cramped as in, the Traktor GUI gets cut off on the side and top or everything is just smaller?
