ModeratorHi Kai,
Question is, do you really need monitors. Or would a better bet be a small, easily transported PA system (like the HK Audio Nano 600 or the LD Systems Dave series)? You can practice just the same (or better?) with the PA, but you can also easily take it with your to house parties or other places you have a chance to play out and just rock the place. Something that you really don’t want to do with monitor speakers.
If you are into producing too, then monitors are your best bet.

KeymasterAlso if you want to expand a little bit and already have full Serato, you could pick up a reloop Neon and have full slicer, flip and pad effects support… for very little money.

ParticipantDJ Vintage,
Sorry i forgot to add i already have PA system monitors, i have two JBL EON610 and used to borrow friends mics and mixer (used to play in a band). since the MTP2 has RCA out, should i buy a mixer and just use this then? i’m not into producing and will be using my garage to practice when i get back so i guess these speakers will do. I’m just not sure how to connect them.I think i was looking to desktop monitors (was looking at KRK 6/8 inch w/o sub) just for in the house, where music won’t be too loud (got a 3 yr old).
Terry_42,
i’ll look into your suggestions also, i’m still learning as i use pads just for loops.April 29, 2015 at 3:06 pm #2186871DJ Vintage
ModeratorHi Kai, great speakers for practice. 10″ is not too ridiculous for the bedroom (or garage in your case) and plenty for house parties and such. So, yeah. Go ahead and use them by all means.
Getting a small PA mixer is a good plan, get one with balanced out so you can hook up your EONs without problem. It will also give you a good mic channel should you need it.
I am personally a fan of the new (3rd generation) MG-series by Yamaha (the MG06 is really compact). Also the small Mackies are nice. There are more, but those are my favorites. Also have a look at the new small USB mixer series from Yamaha. There is a report from the Frankfurt show over at the blog.
If you need speakers for in the house and not too loud, the KRK5s would even suffice or even the new 4″s. They will lack a bit in low end, but that is not a real big issue at lower levels. 8″s would be too big for my taste unless you have a medium to large listening space. I have 5″s currently, but would buy 6″s next time for a bit more bass response. But I don’t have kids to worry about. Also I will probably upgrade from RPG (Rokit) to VXT. Personal taste however.

ModeratorBTW you can connect your RCA outputs (controller) with simple RCA to Jack cables to the line inputs on the mixer.

ParticipantThanks again DJ Vintage! I just ordered RCA cables to connect to current speakers. My wife is buying KRK6’s gen 3, used from Gumtree UK for 160 pounds. Currently looking into a small mixer because having a mic is always a good option. I’ll check the blog again and read into more reviews. I’m gonna hold off on the reloop neon as i still would like to learn more on my MTP2 but like to have the minimum needs to have a good practice session at home or when friends come over. I’m doing this as a hobby and hopefully can record some mixes in the future.
BTW i still got a $1k budget so option is still available for upgrading to SX2 🙂
thanks again

ModeratorLOL.
Good for you. You will have two mic channels (good preamps), two line inputs (always handy to hook up that backup iPad with, or a second DJ) and balanced XLR and Jack outputs.
