If you want to mix as a DJ, then count out the lounchpad.
A lounchpad is for trigging loops in a producer program.
You could of cause map it to a DJ prog but it has only puschbuttons and no sliders or rotary encoders.
That is why you need a DJ controller to DJ (you could DJ from just a keyboard on your computer/laptop as well)

The first thing top do is to look up what software you want to run.
    Then what controller.

Because if you do not decide on the software first you have too many controllers to chose from IMO.

I hope that this is of help 🙂

Alright. I’ve played around in some softwares today in particularly of Virtual DJ, Traktor and Torq. All basic setups like how they just were right after installing. I must say I found myself more comfortable around Torq and it has the best interface out of the three. Torq has the most fxs while Virtual DJ pro was so-so.

I’m both up to dj mixing and mash ups on the launchpad. Either way is cool for me.

Anyway now that I have a software to choose from, I made some research by myself. My price range is 200 like the price of the launchpad. I could stretch my budget a little and go for an xponent (229). Is the m-audio xponent good in your book? What do you guys recommend? Thanks for the feedbacks!

I say figure out what you wanna do more, and then work from there. I myself wanted to mix music, but also toss in some controllerism and flair to songs, so I got a controller (Traktor S4), and a Midi Fighter…$1,000 and $200, so waaaaaay above your price range, lol.

If you’re gonna get any decent controller, you may end up paying a bit more than what your budget currently is, so I’d say save if possible. The launchpad itself is more useful with Ableton versus any of the more traditional DJing software out there (Serato, Traktor Pro, VDJ, etc..), so if you wanna mix music, look strictly at controllers.

Either of the two is really alright with me. I both want to do them and I’d get them both if I had the money. But right now I want to do dj mixing a lil bit more. I just need a confirmation if the dj controller I’m picking, which is the Xponent, is a good choice and a starting point.

If you ever want to play out in gigs and what not…stick with Traktor.

Torq is good…but is a commercial software not professional

From all the reviews I see, the Xponent seems to be good.
From what I can personally see on the unit itself, it’s got good features; cue points, loops, EQ kills, FX…I guess it’s weak point is the software.

If you could map it to Traktor (which I’m very sure people have done and released mappings for it), you’d be starting off pretty nice. ^_^
