I’d get the reloop terminal 2 mix if you just want 2 mixer channels. It has a few extra buttons and knobs for extra stuff, the jogs are touch sensitive not pressure sensitive which makes scratching or jog fx easier to control. But you should stop thinking in terms of beginner controllers, all they do is control the software so if you get the Pro version of the software the only limit is what your willing to try. The only real difference in controllers is amount of controls, construction quality, jog resolution and 14bit midi pitch faders. The only advantage of the RMX2 is the soundcard being 24bit 96khz as opposed to 16bit 48khz, but human ears can’t hear above 20khz, so having that range makes no difference to you but your dog might appreciate it. 😉

The Reloop definitely looks nice, but it’s sadly out of my price range.

I realize the software is the most important thing to consider, which is another big reason why I’m leaning towards the RMX2. It comes with VDJ LE in addition to the in-house Hercules DJUCED software which, while I’ve heard it’s not the greatest, is full-featured and would give me the features I’m missing in VDJ LE until I upgrade to VDJ Pro.

Maybe the stanton djc4 thing would be better then as it’s at the same pricepoint, but upgrading to pro from the original RMX was $150 so may be similar for the new version as hercules and atomix have a great business relationship. whereas I think phil’s review of the stanton said you only get something like $50 off upgrading… so that’s something to consider aswell.

Honestly I think the RMX2 is not worth the price. I am someone who thinks you should get at least decent jog wheels on a controller you start with.
I also think it is unnecessary for you to stretch your budget to the limit. For a beginner in your shoes you might want to either try the “choice of beginners” the Numark Mixtrack Pro, or if you really tend towards VDJ the Reloop Beatmix is also a decent choice. Both are well below your budget and I will tell you why:
Start out. Shelf out the rest of the budget to invest into Phil’s Video course (Learn to Digital DJ fast) and get to know everything well. After that and after your first gigs and possibly a year from now you WILL with 99.9% certainty have found your style and way of DJing and you will want to upgrade into a new controller, fitting your style. So unless you know exactly what you want, buying the most expensive thing your budget will allow, might be a mistake.

I haven’t seen the RMX2 yet, but it looks good to me. It’s improved on the sound card and the jogs, the two areas that let the original RMX down. I wouldn’t write this one off so fast personally.
