I think that unless you’re using a Thinkpad or Toughbook, you should invest in a padded sleeve for your laptop. The two laptops I described honestly are built to take some punishment, as they were meant for businessmen jumping around the world with or even taking to a construction site.

I actually use my old metal record box. You know, the ones everyone bought years ago that constantly got stolen in airports. I put my Xponent, laptop, cables, headphones, backup audio CDs, and even my MPD24 in there. Fits all nicely.

A case is fine, but I suggest a padded sleeve for the laptop. You can find them at any office supply store or computer store.

I use a Tech Air laptop case. Its got two padded interiors, one for the laptop and another for the controller & sound card. Very sturdy and some cool designs too.

Just been sent a Lil Namba Remix Backpack for review… room for a 15″ laptop and a medium-sized controller plus leads, phones etc. Really well made. Looking forward to roadtesting it at the weekend…

In my think pad bag goes the T61p, Natch, in the other side the Numark omni control *just* fits, buttons and controls towards the centre- it actually fits far better buttons out but i like the illusion of em being better protected. in the mesh pocket inside go the gig flyers.
Outside pocket are 2 times 2 in to 1 phono splitters to piggy back in to a mixer if theres no spare line out, usb cable, 2 citronix external soundcards so i can use an analogue mixer if the midi goes west, a 4 way 2 meter long phono to phono lead for the citronix, a 3 meter stereo phono for the omnicontrols output, headphones and lappy power..

From last night, dumped on the floor and bed..

    Pocket contents

    Thinkpad

    Omnicontrol

All in one laptop bag, pretty heavy but not unmanageably so.. 🙂

I use an old Dell laptop bag that was for like one of the huge dells, in the main laptop part it holds my omni control with padding on all sides, in front of this it holds my hercules mp3 e2 with dust cover on it for protection then ontop of this is my laptop with a foamish case but the whole compartment has padding, in the front pocket there is room for headphones, power cables, usb leads, rca leads, hard drives, korg nanopad (not used in setup anymore but theres room) and a couple backup cd’s. I usually drive to gigs so just bring this and my pine stand that doesnt fold since I made it myself :), but its a nice bag for carrying, if I had to use public transport id just use my hercules dust case to raise my laptop up since it makes it sit just above my knobs level on the controllers and also has space for cables to run beneath 🙂
