ParticipantThe Terminal Mix has pretty awesome jogs, so it’s a good choice for scratching.
An aux channel won’t even be picked up by Serato so it must work outside Serato. I own a DDJ-SR which also has an aux channel and it’s completely seperate from the sound from Serato or any other dj software for that matter. But I don’t see any seperate volume knob for the aux, which is weird. My Pioneer has a knob on the back for aux volume. The Reloop only has a master and booth level as far as I can see. No input level.
I have no info on the mic, I can’t help you with that.August 4, 2014 at 1:41 am #2047663tosatto.michael@gmail.com
ParticipantRemember that the TM8 is just a TM4 wtih pads instead of buttons. I myself own a TM4 and I absolutely LOVE IT! The jogs are fantastic (Phil even said they’re the best he’s ever seen on a controller apart from the NSS7II), the transport controls are beautiful, the crossfader is LOOSE and the pitch faders are so accuratre; to 0.01 of a BPM. The I/O is great, and it is just great. The TM4 has hard clicky buttons instead of pads (it’s only downfall), but they are fine to use as long as you don’t go finger drumming.
TM8 is highly recommended, but consider a TM4 as well. Remember to scour eBay and whatnot before you buy. My TM4 was $600 new, I got it unopened in it’s box for $400 at an auction on eBay.

KeymasterSorry to say but you are wrong, the TM8 is not a TM4 with pads.
It took the frame off the TM4 and expanded it to fit the pads, but the electronics are actually a new development.
That is why the TM8 also draws more power and hence needs a power plug and cannot work of USB power alone.
Also it has dimmable LEDs for dark light usage. Now for the OPs questions:
Mic:
Yes the mic works fine. Last gig I even connected my wireless to the mic input because of a soccer public viewing my PA mixer was cluttered up with channels from the sattelite TV and the moderators mics.
It worked flawlessly and the sound output was equal to what the moderator got from his mic going through the PA mixer.
I was using an AKG wireless package and mics.AUX:
Yes it will work as long as the TM8 has power. So the TM8 needs to be plugged into a power source of course. Other than that it works fine. I use it also sometimes while I am still setting up my computer not plugged to the laptop yet just to listen to some tunes of the iPod…August 4, 2014 at 9:42 am #2047702DJ Vintage
Moderator… But I donβt see any seperate volume knob for the aux …
On the front it has a mic/aux section that let’s you route the aux input to software or master, with a level knob beside it. Seems to me that would control the aux volume when set to master.

KeymasterSorry did not see that, yes the small knob does the volume control.

ParticipantAh, I see it now. I thought I must have missed something, because every controller with an aux function has a seperate volume for it as far as I know.

ParticipantTnx for answers guys. It’s always nice to hear/read answers that you like. π
Regarding tm4 vs. tm8: I own Akai LPD 8 and I hope those pads on tm8 are similar quality and feel. They’re definitely more usable than small plastic buttons. Also the position of track load and hp cue buttons makes much more sense on tm8.
Terry_42 this is the answer I was looking for about mic input. Real world usage example and opinion. Thank you for that.
Now I must search for articles about transitioning from traktor to serato and then try to make this switch as smooth as possible.August 5, 2014 at 3:36 am #2047809tosatto.michael@gmail.com
ParticipantI’m pretty sure those pads are actually on par with the Akai pads. They are velocity sensitive, so…

KeymasterI also own an LPD8 and the pads do feel a bit different when you drum on them, but just slightly. Overall quality seems to be the same.
I also transitioned from Traktor to Serato 2 years ago and it was one of the easiest things to do in my life. DO not overread articles about it. Just get it, start Serato and you will easily drive with it. Maybe read the Serato quick start guide on the serato homepage or the one that comes with the TM8 and you will be OK.
The only thing I mentioned was that sometimes due to having used Traktor I was thinking too complicated and when I got it was amazed how simple things can be and just work….August 6, 2014 at 1:25 am #2047963Isaiah Furrow
ParticipantHello, I have a TM8 and although I haven’t used the mic input extensively, or with more than my SHURE PG48 (I know, I’m cheap…LOL)… I can say that the mic input is pretty good. I have a Numark iM1 mixer, and a Mixtrack Pro 2, and the TM8 sounds better with the mic than either of these. I have also a Stanton M.203 which I love, and I’d say the TM8 is equal to or better than the Stanton mixer as far as the mic is concerned.
Both the Mic and Aux input work without a laptop, when the switch is in the right position. I have also used the aux input routed to Serato, and recorded an old demo tape of my friend’s band. Came out pretty decent coming from an OLD cassette tape.
So far I really love the TM8 and Serato DJ, the only thing I’d like to upgrade to would be something similar with standalone mixer and DVS compatibility. Possibly lit jog indicators. Something similar to the DDJ-SV maybe, but a Reloop version… π Keep us posted, and keep shining…. MoonshadowAugust 6, 2014 at 9:24 am #2047975DJ Vintage
ModeratorLOL Santa … christmas came so early you are perhaps mixing up things a bit. DDJ-SV has not been made (yet?). If you know more about upcoming releases, be sure to contact Phil and his staff over at the blog :-).
And the new Numark controller is the NV.
Did the old cassette tape have ANY high end left? I find that tapes over the age of about 5 years are bass and mid only. Horrible, only reason I digitized some is because they were of unique happenings. Could never use those in public though. Even playing them in the car on rare occassions, I have to prepare myself for the quality that is coming π

ParticipantI’m pretty sure the DDJ lineup is complete for this generation. Pioneer themselves stated it was complete with the introduction of the SZ. But the next Serato update supposedly will enable DVS for controllers, so keep a look out for that.

ModeratorI was kidding around Marco, I’ve read the Pioneer statements to that effect too π

ParticipantAh, ok. Still, the DVS enabling would mean he wouldn’t even need an SV. π

Participanthaha, typo, I meant SZ…. not sure where the v came from …LOL The tape actually was in good shape, I don’t think it had lost much quality. It had been stored and hadn’t been played much over the years I don’t think. The purpose was so my friend and his dad could listen to the music from the tape in digital form, without wearing out the old cassette. I don’t plan on playing anything from that tape for my sets, just used that as an example of how I’ve used the aux so far, aside from backup. Oh, Chuck, santa creek is where I live, nothing to do with Christmas… π
