KeymasterIn my opinion it is not useful when you start out. You know when the time is right.
So probably if you are asking this question, then the value might be limited.July 16, 2013 at 7:12 am #42248Lamid45G
ParticipantThe usefulness of the talent agency / DJ Management Agency is just that … for getting gigs …
Most of the time they have access to Manager/Owner of the club around the cities of your hometown, sometimes they also have access to Sponsors (ex. Tobacco Company, Beer-brand Company, etc), and these Sponsors can “finance”/support you on your next gigs or somewhere around that lineJuly 16, 2013 at 7:16 am #42250Terry_42
KeymasterI have yet to meet a DJ agency who can do what you say, that would support someone who does not already have a name or at least limited reputation in town.
Most of the time you can do the same on your own and not have to pay an agency. The first time I had an agency pay off was when I was already well known and wanted to expand internationally, as obviously I had no idea of some of the places I wanted to go to.July 16, 2013 at 7:45 am #42258Lamid45G
Participant@terry: they are a lot of this local talent agency who provide services to an unknown DJ and such, its true I can do it on my own on my hometown, but when i tried to look for gigs in another cities (same country-wise), these talent agency will help you out, in fact in order to get a “name” or to be known DJ (at least locally), getting gigs in other cities is one way to go about it, and obviously for the same reason is because I had no idea or no idea who’s the manager or those clubs in those other cities, or some of those cities is just too far away from my hometown, separated by oceans and seas, cant just drove there lol, the agency can help you to bridge those out.

KeymasterI am sorry I have yet to see an agency hire a DJ for a gig overseas that is a total nobody and starting out. If you do, please give me their number I have 200 people lined up. Unless of course you are investing money, that is always possible.
Of course you can pay an agency to get you a starter gig overseas that will prolly have you at a deep loss, as the pay will prolly not even cover the flight.Check out some of D-Jams articles on how to make a name for yourself and how to promote yourself. Also if you are a nobody in your town, I doubt you get a gig in a town 200 miles away that will at least pay off the gas and the hotel.
If you start out (of course that is my opinion and my experience, because I worked my way up to international residencies before “semi-retiring”) you need to visit the local scene, get to know people and managers and work your way in there and make a name in your home. Of course if you are sitting on a lot of money you can always buy your way in and then an agency will pay off, but they will take a lot more money than you make for the first 2 – 3 years and working like that you should have financial stamina… I have seen rich DJ boys do it, yes it works.July 17, 2013 at 2:35 am #42293Lamid45G
Participant@terry: i never said the agency hire a dj for a gig overseas,
I agreed to you it is much harder to actually to get gigs overseas,
its for a gig in other cities within the same country, nationally/locally to clear it out, not Internationally…
Here’s some of the example, “Donutz Production” (http://www.donutzproduction.com), their phone number +6221 735 7870
Another one, “Passion Inc.” (http://passion-inc.com/), and many many more, like I said there’s 1000 of em
Granted, some of the these agency quality is varied, but it served the main purpose to get you gigs…I also saw dozens of unknown/nobody DJ’s playing out in other cities (nationally), 1,000 miles away from my hometown, not only they don’t have to pay the gas and hotel, the clubs/sponsors pays for their airplane tickets and hotels, plus they got pays also while playing at their club.

KeymasterOk I see we are talking about different things. Both links are event promoters that hire young talent if you check out.
Totally different cup of tea and yes those can be very beneficial. -
