Depending on how long you are going for and what your gigs will net you, wouldn’t it be easier to just rent for the period you are there? I am pretty sure that as excess luggage it will be rather pricey to take with you and although if you have good quality flight cases you should be ok (the things aren’t called FLIGHT cases for nothing :-)), there is always the risk of the stuff ending up on another flight, getting lost or internally damaged after a severe drop.

Especially if you use “de facto standard” equipment, it shouldn’t be too hard to get identical or very similar rental gear in NZ and the rental price might just be compensated for by not having to ship it back and forth and not having the hassle.

Cheers for your help! Am heading over to London to live and iv thought about selling my gear in Nz to buy new gear over in England but seams cheaper to take my own gear than buy again. Id definitly rent gear if I was purely going to play gigs but its more so i have them with me to play. Just unsure of the best way of getting them through my travel..

Oh, read that wrong, thought you were going the other way lol.

Yeah, you’d want to take your gear then I suppose. Again, good flightcases should stand you fine, especially if you make sure when you check them in they are marked fragile/sensitive. After all, studio crews, bands but also medical teams travel with gear all the time.

If you don’t have cases yet, you might want to look at metal (aluminimum?) or ABS cases instead of wood. Both are slightly sturdier in that they’d sooner dent than break like wood and, not unimportant when you are charged by the kilo, lighter.

In the old days, they would give you some leeway in taking stuff on board, but that is a big nono these days.

Good luck m8 and I hope you realize the weather sucks over in this part of Europe LOL.

I used to take flight cases, as there is no way they let you take a whole coffin with mixer and CDJs into the cabin.
Nowadays it is easy… bag with laptop and controller and take it with me into the cabin. MUCH cheaper.

I think if you’re playing a set or something, the club or promoter should provide you with gear.

If you’re moving, I’d seriously think about shipping your gear. It’s in flight cases, so they’ll be safe from damage. I shipped my CDJs with flight cases to a guy in Spain (he bought them off me on eBay) and they got there perfectly fine.

It’s a good tip, just need a bit of patience, ships take a wee bit longer than planes :-).
