Participantsee, there are many flight cases, controller sleeves etc for carrying ur controller. the ddj sb isn’t such a big controller so i would recommend that u get a sleeve from udg / odyssey / magma etc (there are many manufacturers) and take it as ur hand luggage. these sleeves provide basic protection and are very sturdy and not to mention cheap too. u just hv to make sure that no one puts any luggage on top of ur controller sleeve in the overhead compartments
but, if u r too overprotective of ur gear (we all tend to be) then invest some more dollars to get a flight case so that u can check it in with ur other luggage. the only downside is that they’re heavy and and so u might have to be careful of not crossing ur check-in luggage limit.
i would recommend u get a controller sleeve. it is the most portable option for entry-level controllers. if u want to store ur cables, laptop and other gear with it then go for odyssey’s redline series or udg’s flight-bags (they’ll cost about 150 us bucks). or else u could go for a simple controller sleeve that’ll store only ur controller along with a small cable or two (they’ll cost about 60-80 us dollars).
one piece of advice, never put a controller, however nicely packed, in ur check-in baggage as ur faders or knobs will likely be damaged, except if u use a flight case of course.
this comes from a fellow ddj-sb user. all the best for ur dj-ing journey 🙂

KeymasterWell since I have traveled A LOT, there are 2 options:
Get a really good controller backpack (UDG, Magma,…) for your controller and take it as hand-luggage. Make sure the backpack is big enough to fit the controller and other hand-luggage you might want to take, but small enough to comply with airline regulations. Note that many airlines allow hand-luggage to be bigger if you tell them at check in it is a musical instrument.Option 2: Get a really really good flight case with butterfly knobs and metal reinforcements all around and check that in.
Even if the case is really good, option 2 is always more risk and more expensive.

Participantmost airlines will allow a musical instrument despite its size. i’ve seen guitarists carry their guitars as hand luggage. so i’m pretty damn sure a ddj-sb won’t be an issue.

ModeratorYou never know with airlines Sparsh, especially the current low-fare offerings.
I would suggest that if you buy any “soft-case” solution (i.e. sleeve, backpack) that you get a protector (decksaver). These are transparent, hard plastic covers that fit over the top of your controller. As you buy one specific to your controller there is room for all the knobs and controllers. The good thing is that any pressure asserted on the top will not be forced onto the knobs and faders, but stay with the cover.

ParticipantI’d double check with the specific airline for their specific policy. I’ve been able to bring my guitar on some airlines whereas others, NOT. Same thing with my dog, some airlines, yes, some no or rather have very strict guidelines.
I’ve also been able to beg and plead for my guitar to be brought on a plane but it’s a lot of energy and hassle to rely on that when it might be easier to just find out the specific policy and adhere to that. Airport employees are just workers so they’re just following rules so as long as you follow their rules, you’re good.

ParticipantIf you go with the hard case route, make sure you dead bolt it real good, you dont want to open it up later on and found an empty coffin right ?
