    Update 2.0

The cops wouldn’t let me take my gear because the homeowners ran and I couldn’t prove it was mine in their eyes. The promoter did find out that somebody stole it and sent some people to recover it all (except my 1/4 adapter) and deal out some Texas style justice.

I did learn a lesson from this and my plan for future events that aren’t in clubs is going to be to ask for a $700 deposit incase my gear gets damaged or stolen again. If the night goes as planned I take my cut and give the rest back at the end.

About the gear though: I’m going to just wait until the NDX 500 officially comes out just so I can get used to playing with out hot cues.

I hear that. If it is only for practice reasons, get a set of cheapo CD-players and go practice. No need to get Pioneer. American DJs or any other low end brand will do the same and you can probably pick up a set of those with a 2-channel mixer for under 250-300. I’d be hard-pressed to find a valid reason to spend any kind of money on practice gear that effectively throws me back an eon. You can practice not having hot cues on your controller. Just pick 20-30 tracks that you want to practice with. Open a new collection on your software. Load only the tracks you are gonna use for practice. Don’t set anything and if possible switch of analysing tracks.

Now you have plain tracks with nothing added. Even if your controller has hot cue buttons, they won’t do anything.

    Just me though.

Chuck, yes unfortunately I’ve dealt with American cops on ….errrr…. a few… occasions. So LittleHuman, you were able to recover everything but the 1/4″ headphone adapter?
I’ve been looking to get a media player, and the small format ones are more to my liking. Might just have to look into that NDX500. It’s mostly for backup purposes.
    Keep shining folks.

DJRizki… it was not a situation where I was DJing, and I don’t care to elaborate on the forums really, but I’ve dealt with police under a few circumstances. Hit me up personally if you’d like to get acquainted on a personal level and maybe I would share more. Look me up on FB, or @gmail without spaces or capitals. I’m on youtube under simply my first and last name.
More on topic. Update 2.0 says that you couldn’t identify your gear and prove it was yours. Another reason to make that obvious, and this has me thinking about identifying gear as mine. Maybe some stickers with Property Of: and your name, company name, phone # , etc. Having other stuff on hand or in your vehicle, may also help. Sorry to have learned so much from your unfortunate circumstance, but thanks again for sharing, it was truly helpful. After I showed my wife this thread, she informed me that I am not to leave my gear at any gig ever again. I’d previously left some lighting, cabling, and my table at a gig in a friend’s garage overnight. I know the person well, it was kept locked overnight, and this is a small community, but things do happen…. Keep shining folks…. Isaiah

Create a rider (sheet with equipment you will be using at the gig). Always send a copy of the rider with your contract, saying this is the gear you can count on me bringing. In this case you could have shown the cops the rider and contract. Good chance they would have let you taken your gear home. Obviously Santa’s is a good tip of marking your gear. Just be careful if you ever want to resell stuff, that your marking is not of the permanent kind 😀 .

@Santa: Never mind Rizki, the helmet limits his vision sometimes LOL
