    I use sub bass in every track i create, tracks that do not have any sub bass sound like there really missing something. I normaly do no apply any sub bass to my kicks because i actualy remove it all through EQ around 0-50hz but that still leaves enough bass for the punch which is around 50-120hz. I only use sub bass to back up my bassline or a meoldy within the track, if the kick has it also they cancels each other out. In the end though it depends what your going after and what genre you are creating.

    I dont really no the tech reason behind it just think its adds the belly thumping sound you need in a club track 🙂 , think songs sound weak without it though

    Hello Steven 🙂
    Great Thread with Great Topic 😎
    When I first heard about Sub Bass I thought it was only used in ‘Dub’ Tracks;
    But since learning how to make Dubstep; I have had to learn ‘How’ to make it; and make it Substantial 🙂
    When Producing in Ableton; Sub Bass is Quite Easy as there is a Preset that turns any Kick Drum ‘into’ a Sub Bass;
    But whilst using my Massive VST the Sub Bass has to be ‘Written/Programmed’; but again it is not Too Hard;
    Going back to Ableton and using an Instrument called ‘Operator’ I can also Write Sub Bass Patterns;
    At the moment (since my Headphones Snapped); the Headphones I am using don’t pick up the Sub Bass too well; so it is a little More Difficult to Write Sub Bass when I can’t hear it 🙂
    Sub Bass may be in Many Other Genres too; but I have only just started learning about it;
    But I Understand the Necessity of ‘Layering’; and do that all the time to make sounds ‘Fatter’ :);
    It would be Cool if this Thread becomes Bigger so I (and Others) can Learn More about the Sub Bass 😎

    Sub bass is found most electronic genre’s. I have heard soft sub bass in house and electro, though the more stand out sub bass is within the likes of Garage, Jungle or most DnB tracks & and of course Dubstep where it is a essiential part of the track. You should research what songs have it to improve your knowledge of it, if you find it hard to pick out the sub however, turn the high and the mid’s all the way down. This will leave only the bass and everything will be clearer. To create my sub bass i just have a single sine wave that is turned down 3-4 octaves. You will want to give the sub the slightest attack time, if it is set to 0.0ms you will hear a click at the start of it so 2.0ms should be good. Sustain and decay all maxed, and no release at all.

    some producers like zedd and porter robinson are adding it to electro lately 🙂 it makes the room explode with such high amounts of energy, other tracks I have I tend to add small bits to the sound just to beef them up then usually split the track into 8 different tracks bass left and right mid low left and right etc…. and tend to lower and compress the bass, doing this seems to give it more of a thumb, if it sounds too messy and doesnt gell too well I tend to add a slight bit of reverb on the mids…

    its probably not a typical way of editing tracks but it seems to work if I feel they are missing something I then of course re-eq them and test on several systems including my car system before playing live… car seems to show anything ive missed and can then edit as I need to 🙂

    In highway engineering, subbase is the layer of aggregate material laid on the subgrade, on which the base course layer is located

    I Wish we had the Opportunity/Facility (as we do with YouTube Videos); to have a Media/Audio Player on this Forum; so that we could Actually ‘Hear’ some of Our Examples of Our Work; just One-Two Minutes would be Enough;
    Then we could give ‘More Instruction’ to Others of What Sub Bass is; and How it is Created 😎

    When making sub-bass, keep in mind that anything under 30Hz is bass that you can literally feel! I enjoy making my own sub-bass with Massive’s sine waves, with LFO’s on my envelopes. Pitch it down to about -32 octaves, add a couple filters, and boom, instant sub-bass!
