There is no shortcut here. Some people seem to think that DJing is the shortcut to music and all we do is push buttons, so there needs to be a simple manual. So you will need to learn about music theory.

I would recommend buying at least 2 books.
1. How to write a pop song (I know it says pop, but it applies to all modern music in theory)
2. any intoduction book to music theory
