Get rid of 450 gig of tunes AT least and work from there.

Haa, agreed. If I was in your shoes I would just be beat-gridding playlists for live djing as I go, no point beatgridding tracks if you’r not gonna play them.

Thanks for the advice I will start of small and slowly chip away at it. Cheers B

    Yep,

Start with your list of favorites. Have those in the right quality and fully prepped and analyzed in your system. Make a playlist system that works for you and fill them with the appropriate tracks.

I had a big collection too (slightly smaller than yours) and I am currently starting COMPLETELY fresh. I intend to have between 1200-2000 tracks that make my core collection. The rest I will save as a request system on a separate hard disk.

That way it will fit on a memory stick for playing out in CDJ environments, on my iPad (with my iDJ Pro) and on my MacBook Pro with SSD.

    Thanks DJ Vintage,

I am going to use traktor, so I still need to work out the importation process and how I manage them once they have had their grid done and locked down and then how I identify beat grid tracks versus non beat grid tracks.

Is this bettr off done in traktor or via root directory folders?

    Cheers, B

Personal choice really. iTunes is another option many use. I have been reluctant (because I really -uhmmm- dislike iTunes) to use it, but there are some advantages to it. There are plenty of articles over at the blog about starting and managing a collection and lots of threads here on the forum.

In essence I like to have my tracks in places where I can still find them without any software. And you should be able to keep it that way. Effectively DJ software only stores the location of your tracks, it doesn’t move your tracks around.

Thanks DJ Vintage, I think the first step is to sort it all out in the root directory as you stated.

I think I will start the arduous task of starting a whole new root directory first and seperate my DJ tracks form my overall collection. Cheers I appreciate your post, B

You’re welcome and good luck. It’s a lot of work. But I am sure it will be worth it in the end. It will also raise your appreciation for your collection 🙂
