    Radio Dj-ing (no “” there) is significantly different from club DJ-ing which is vastly different from mobile DJ-ing and being a producer/DJ is yet something else entirely. Many avenues to choose from.

    In all honesty, I’d get the SB which is a nice controller (look around for posts on starter controllers to find the entire “preferred” list we have) and has all you needed to get started with digital DJ-ing. As you progress you will find your way and workflow and be better able to decide on what your next controller should look like to fit with your choice of software, type of DJ-ing, budget and of course skill level and ambitions.

    As a hobby? Ya, I think you’ll be fine with the RB too (I assume that’s what Vintage meant to suggest). It’s nicely laid out and has everything you are likely to need to play around and have some fun.

    Later on down the road if you decide to move from hobby to something more defined, you can upgrade then.

    Hi,

    I’ve had the same struggle last year and chose the DDJ-RR. I didn’t regret my choice ever since. Of course, the budget was not an issue.

    I wanted to start Bedroom-DJing for fun and wanted not to be restrained if I wanted to take it to the next level.

    Compared to the RB, the build quality is much higher and the physical feeling as well. There are more inputs and outputs, more controls, pitch sliders are more precise, etc. I would definetely regret buying a RB for such reasons.

    Today, I left the bedroom for a very few occasions. Nevertheless, I really enjoy the controls, the XLR outputs I use to connect my monitor-speakers (RCA is fine sound-quality wise, buy XLK are more robust if you plug/unplug them often).

    Now there’s the software that is : Rekordbox DJ or Serato. Well, as I never used any before, I’m quite fine with Rekordbox 🙂

    The DDJ-RB is a terrible choice for you. You’re a 45 year-old former DJ not a 16 year-old kid getting a birthday present. It should be noted that the DDJ-RB doesn’t even have a quarter-inch headphone jack… It has that little mini headphone thing. There’s nothing professional about that at all. And it’s ENTIRELY plastic. At least the DDJ-RR has some metal pretensions. And you can only control ONE-EFFECT at a time (besides the Filter) with the DDJ-RB. I have the ReLoop BeatMix 2 Mark II (and I also made a YouTube video about that and the DDJ-RB, because I had both, and decided the BeatMix 2 was superior) and it has three separate programmable effects (most entry level controllers do).

    I do believe that the DDJ-RB won’t be enough controller for you… in ANY… WAY. Especially if you still have some pro audio equipment laying around.

    Be nice to yourself and get the DDJ-RR.

    (Also, it should be noted, I created a new account on this site, since I couldn’t log in to my old one for some odd reason… and the forgot password thing wasn’t working so it took me two days, but I created this account JUST to tell you NOT to get the DDJ-RB.)

    Oof. Ya, upon a closer inspection, I stand corrected. I didn’t realize they had made quite so many changes between the RB and the SB2. The SB2 is a fun little unit to play on. The RB looks like it maybe cuts back on a few too many of the basics.

    Consider my recommendation for that route revoked. lol
