There is, undeniably, a totally different feel to vinyl. I started on vinyl, went to CD (Denon dual-decks mostly, the occasional flirt with CDJs, later a couple of CDJ-lookalikes 8-)), then to digital (first DJ software with no controller, then Numark D2Director = like a double CD player, but with attached hard drive, then to MC6000 and laptop) and now I have found myself using Denon SC2900s. They feel a bit vinyl-like and are pretty big 7″ platters. Still, not having the torque and such … well … Then again, I remember too well the weight of a pair of SL-1200s, the susceptibility to bouncing needles, needles breaking, wearing, etx.

So, even though I love vinyl, I am not going back. May be an age thing or a ‘been there, done that’ thing.

The Denon SC3900 and the NS7-II controllers are a good alternative to real turntables though. No needle problems, more compact and lighter and still total vinyl feel with motorized platters.

From time to time I get a chance to play on SL1200s in a fixed environment (I do mainly mobile gigs) and I love the opportunity, I will bring vinyl records though and not do DVS. If I am going Old Skool I am going Old Skool all the way LOL.

I have a blast, experience all the frustrations we had back in the day (no pitch lock! for one) and carrying a heavy record back home after the gig, I am happy I don’t have to do that anymore.

Greetinx and good luck on vinyl!

I feel like I found a whole new world of djing, I fell in love with vinyl a few months back while going through my buddies old crates and never looked back. I now run a DVS system with Traktor Scratch using the Audio 6 and would like hear your guys thoughts.

I started with a S4. Loved it but got to compliant with hitting the sync and getting kind of bored with it. I always wanted to scratch, and that was way hard on the S4. I ended up selling it, thinking it was a faze and I was done. WRONGO. I ended up buying a couple stanton t60’s and a cheap mixer to get me by. Well that didn’t last long as I bought the Traktor Z2 and 2 Numark TTX turntables. I am amazed by them. I know the Z2 you can sync with but it’s like I have more drive to beat match since i’m learning to scratch finally. Still super stoked and play more than I ever did with the S4. On another note. I scratch minimally with traktor because I bought some vinyl to use. And I find the response way better on the vinyl.

Glad you moved from midi to DVS because it like you want to learn more about the aspects of djing. Another thing that is good is that a lot of djs only know how to mix and use midi and don’t know how to use DVS, vinyl or cdjs which is were these midi controllers got their original function from.

Hey, that’s exactely what I am doing right now 🙂 got me some tts, Traktor Audio 4 DJ, a Kontrol X1 and Scratch Pro 2. I’m right in the “switching process” and it’s amazing although harder. Right now my attempts are of course kind of clumsy. I guess I just don’t know the right tricks yet ^^ But time and practice will hopefully sort it out.
