ParticipantUPDATE: I somehow managed to omit the worst crime of the night (I think I’d tried to erase it from my memory)……he had two or three pre-loaded samples that he used relentlessly.
The primary (and worst) one was an airhorn (oh yes, the dreaded airhorn). This delightful sample was played literally every two minutes – and that’s not an exaggeration…
…every time he ‘mixed’ a new track in….AIRHORN!
…every time there was a drop in a track…AIRHORN!
…every time he thought someone had noticed he wasn’t really doing anything …AIRHORN!This wonderful sound was combined with the occasional ‘put your hands up in the air’ and an incomprehensible rap sample.
Fun times…

ParticipantLol, that’s like top of my list annoyances with some DJs. No flow and God help me the over use of airhorn effects.

ParticipantFunny – I was thinking the same thing.
No need to focus on your DJ’ing if you are excellent at mareketing yourself.
Of course a modest arounder is what is really needed 🙂

ParticipantOh, those preloaded VDJ samples are terrible. I bumped the sample trigger on my N4 once and got that “put your hands up in the air” garbage yelling down the PA at me. Ugh. Now I always make sure to turn those all the way down if I don’t have them loaded with something.

KeymasterHonestly I do not know how DJs that have no feel for music get gigs…
I do not care if they use sync or VDJ but the flow and energy has to be good.On the samples: I actually have an airhorn in one of the banks of the SP-6, but it is more like a joke and only used if I spot another DJ I know entering the club I would wave at them and airhorn as a greeting 😛 because I know everyone hates it hehe

ParticipantWell, this is what happens when the cheap venue takes on the $50-a-night DJ who pirates his/her software and music.
You get what you pay for.

BlockedWhen I started mixing it was with 2 standard single play CD players, with a mixer I bought at Radio Shack. Started mobile djing, upgraded eventually to a Numark system with a controller, pitch control, off of a 2 CD dock. Had to truly beat mix manually. Even had to mix with tape players cuz most of the musical library was on cassette. Had success for six years before I got sick of brides. Long story short, I wanted to have perfect mixes for my workouts and jacked a copy of VDJ. I’m not going to hide from it, think what you will. I knew how to mix without the software. Still do, however I found the 12 channel sampler to be helpful and creative. I do all my mixing now on the keyboard. I just know how and when to mix. I’ve played numerous musical instruments and understood how songs are written. So I started remixing pop songs using the 12 channel sampler and my computer as an instrument triggering samples and recording the result.
I’m not ashamed of how it happens and the results speak for themselves. I’ve archived close to 40 remixes using exclusively the 12 channel sampler and loops I had to research to make fit the mix and movements. Creativity comes in all forms and shades. To insist how it’s done and whether it’s credible is up to the listener. Ultimately yearn to upgrade to the Traktor S4 system with Maschine studio further down the line. Based on my current remixes and experience producing and performing, I can’t wait to take EDM to new levels of arrangement. The power to micro-manage every measure is endless in the EDM field due to the depth of the technology and ease of workflow compared to the days of programming every measure like with my first drum machine, Roland DR-5. Most dj’s do not know what a quarter or whole note is. I will never give up my 808 and 303 and will hook them into the back of my S4. Get a taste of the clubmixes VDJ is capable of on my Soundcloud site at soundcloud.com/frank-no-more. I now provide DJ’s with downloadable and unique versions of tracks with a punch in the chest. Just sayin’, things are not always as they seem. You would never tell the difference between Reason or Pro tools or VDJ. Respectfully yours…
Frank-No-More.. Sorry for the shameless self promotion but you might find something useful for your own sets. That’s what they are for…

ParticipantFrank there is no reason anybody should be ashamed for using sync. The thread even starts with him saying how he thought the quality was ok till he discovered the fact that there was no manual beat matching. Bunch of silliness to be honest and quit boring.
