KeymasterGive us a number of people that will attend. Speakers are largely dependent on how many people you want to entertain.
50-100-150-200-2000 all need a different breed of speaker. Surely you can down tune a system for 200 people to play for 50, but not the other way around…June 9, 2012 at 11:06 am #1005880David A Hora

Thanks for writing back, as I am new then I was going to start with small partys of about 50 and not anymore then 100. I also forgot to say I will need to go though a RCA from the DJ controller to the speakers.I hope this help, Also can anyone let me send them audio to listen to so I can mix and when I talk I will do it not to slow or fast.

ParticipantHi David, if you’re looking for great sound and quality on a budget, you can’t go past the Behringer Eurolive series either the B212 (12″ woofer) or B215 (15″ woofer). I would personally go the larger speakers so you can accommodate larger groups or rooms.
June 9, 2012 at 6:02 pm #1005887KeymasterIf you are on a budget those behringers will do. Definitely go for he B215 though, the 12s are too small to give any bass for disco sound.
However I am not fond of Behringer, they sound pretty harsh and have a lot of hiss. You do get a lot of volume for little buck though and you might need an RCA to TRS converter anyway (RCA over long distances is not good anyways).If you can shelf it out I would go for one of the entry systems of Reloop, HK Audio or Peavey. They cost a bit more than the Behringer but will get you a lot more longer lifespan and road worthiness and have an active subwoofer.
To add even more flexibility to your setup you can easily add a Peavey PV6 PA mixer, that has RCA ins and will hook up to the sound system better.June 9, 2012 at 6:22 pm #1005889MemberThanks for that and I did find they do not have RCA plugs so will need to get a wire with RCAs on both ends then a plug to fit into that speaker.

They really do seem to be making a effort to improve their quality of products too.

MemberI’d say get the Behringer 215D’s for now. They are great for the price point. I’ve got 3 of the 15” and 2 of the 12″. Just eq the high end down about 10% on songs that sound harsh.
I’ve used those a bunch for parties of 50-125 people with absolutely zero complaints and some nice compliments. Over 125, I’ve paired them with a JBL 18″ powered Sub. I’ve had giant ballrooms of 300+ people with a good portion of them going strong on the dance floor with just that set up. For the most part though, except in rare huge situations, I’ve never need to turn them up past 2 O’Clock.
Now I will say that during last Wedding Offseason, I upgraded my main speakers to the JBL PRX615m’s… and it’s a world of difference. I love those speakers so much. But, that’s down the road for you.
Start with the Behringers and when you make some money from DJing, invest it in something better and the Behringer’s will be a great backup set.

Oh and if you can: Use an RCA to TRS converter on your controller and use a balanced cable for the length to the speakers. At this length a quality balanced cable with TRS connectors on both sides will do a much better job.

Thanks for letting me know about using a balanced cable and I like to learn more about the cables in DJ work, could you if you can tell me please what is a balanced cable is. I am asking this information as all I know is if I put a audio cable into a speaker and say a controller it will take the sound and move it to the speaker where of course the sound comes out. This is all new to me and I like to go round maybe some web sites that could help me understand all the different cable types and if I need to I can buy cable to fit the RCA controller.If you Terry or anyone can put me on the right road to understanding cables then I can walk into shops knowing I learned what cable is what.

Cabling is an underestimated topic and can be the source of many problems and on the other hand benefits in your setup. I only know so much about it, because I am also a HAM radio operator… and there you need really good cables.
