ModeratorLoads of active speakers these days have auto-switching power supplies, meaning you can just plug it in anywhere that has between 100-250V and 50-60Hz. So I’d think that is the least of your trouble 😀
You fail to tell us what you need the speakers for. And if size/portability is an issue. A single 15″ is way too big for practice room use and (imho) on the large size for booth monitor. Personally I don’t like having those huge things sitting at 1 ft from my ears looking like an oversized set of cans.
Also one speaker, obviously, will give you only mono. You can get the same amount of SPL with a better spread and stereo sound going for a pair of 12″ or even 10″.
Looking at a highly portable 2.1 setup (all with some sort of line array top speakers these days) could be an option. Small footprint, great sound for such a small setup, still quite a lot of bass. Easy to pack up and move to a party or something.
The traditional, LD Systems Dave and HK Audio Lucas Nano are still around, but almost all major brands now seem to feature such a setup. LD has a new version, Curv and we saw plenty of other brands at the Frankfurt MusikMesse show.
Again, if you can be more concise about the intended use, we might be able to point you more squarely in a suitable direction.

ParticipantDJ Vintage,
I won’t be using this monitor in the house as I have KRK Rokit 6s set up in my music room. I don’t plan on taking those with me. Im more so looking into a speaker I can use in the yard, garage (have a two car) and take with me when we have get togethers.
Hopefully I get a chance to drive up to a music store (2 hrs away) to listen to some speakers this weekend. i’ll keep an eye out for the LD and HK systems.
Thanks again for the inputs.

ModeratorEven RCF had a system with a sub an small line array on a pole. So there should be plenty of options for that kind of small, portable systems. And I have to admit, their size belies the sound the produce, both in SPL (volume) and quality (near HiFi for some).

ParticipantThanks for the info. Heading up to Norwich, UK this weekend (closest music store) to test what they have. Hopefully they have some of the ones you are talking about. With the warmer temperature hopefully coming, we usually have a lot of get togethers and this is why I’m planning to get some speakers.
As of right now I think my budget is around 500-750 GBP
Since you said something about RCF, I know someone local who is selling his 2x RCF Art 312a Mk1 for 500 GBP (with covers). I haven’t had a chance to see them (even though he said its in good condition and just got serviced), what do you think about picking up some second hand speakers?

ModeratorIf you can listen to them before buying, you should be ok. RCF is the mainstay for lots of rental companies, which is testament to them being able to take the hard life on the road for a long period of time.
They are great speakers, but again, purpose beats most other criteria. The systems I talked about have a (sub)woofer and are probably just a bit more well-rounded for smaller rooms. The RCFs need full speaker stands which do take up quite a bit of valuable floor space, You preferably want them away from the walls somewhat, which means even more square footage gone.
At the end of the day though, it’s all about YOUR wishes and YOUR ears.
You should be ok either way with the budget you set I think. The LD Curve system has the advantage that all or most of the components can be purchased later if you want to expand your system
