    Keep looking!

Seriously though. It’s not gonna happen. Read the MANY posts here on the forum (and some articles over on the forum) on speaker choices.

In PA it’s a VERY simple “rule”: you get what you pay for.

If that is all your budget is, go and rent stuff. You get pro quality gear, you can make a deal with the rental company to give you 15-120% discount so you make some money on arranging the rental for the person booking you for the party and be done with it.

Rental prices are usually 3-4% of the purchase price of gear. Meaning you’d have to play 25-30 times in a relatively short period of time to make back your investment. Which would still be a serious wad of cash up front.

There is no decent sounding speaker with any kind of serious power for under 200 bucks (a piece).

To give you an idea, count on 800+ for a decent pair of speakers (12″ or so). Don’t forget you’ll want speaker covers for transport, cables in various lengths (or the longest one you’ll be using at least) and speaker stands of decent quality. All this adds to the price.

Just my two cents, as usual.

Depending on the model, they range from “rather awful sound” to “pretty decent considering the price”.

Do not expect miracles in this price range.

I’d say save up another $100-200 and look at a 12″ EV ZLX powered speaker, or the new Thumps. Get one and do a couple house parties with just that one speaker. Use the $ from those parties to add a second, then sub/s….. Even if doing a free house party for friends/practice, or because you have only one speaker so far, you could make an announcement, pass the hat for $ for another speaker, etc…. Best of luck, let us know what you’ve decided to do and how it works out for ya…
