MemberJoin groups of similar genre – wait ! Doesnt happen fast, actually happens pretty slow, but if you are good people are gonna start noticing you and do the promotion to their friends and the thing goes on. if you got any facebook or twitter profiles also use those to post links to your stuff.
What I DONT do is post comments to other people’s mixes-tracks saying “Hey nice mix-track! I uploaded some of my stuff too! Care to check em out?” Im absolutely disgusted of this whole “flattery exchanging thing” that people seem to use and frankly? I never actually did bother to check out stuff of a guy who posted a similar comment to one of my tracks-mixes.

MemberDon’t worry it’s something I can’t stand as well!
The point is, if you don’t produce your own music, people are just going to see you as dude number 1.000.000 who uploads a new mixtape. Now I don’t think my mix is that superficial, i think it’s pretty good, but it’s realy hard to promote. Also, do you think that paying for Soundcloud to upgrade it would help? I would pay those 25 euro’s, but unfortunately, I don’t have Visa or Mastercard.
At the moment, the only thing I think I can do is to post my mixes on facebook, groups there and let them join one group at Soundcloud. It’s not very effective but it’s the least I can do I guess.

MemberAh! Im so used to being a paying member of Soundcloud that I forgot the fact that you can only post your tracks-mixes to ONE group as a free member on Soundcloud. Well, frankly, I think Mixcloud is more appropriate for DJ sets and you can post them to as many groups as you want…..but if you really want to promote your stuff (be it mixes or tracks) on Soundcloud groups you really need to buy a membership…..Thats what I did but then again I am using it primarily for tracks and not for mixes! 😉

A really good way to promote along the lines of flattery is to just flatter… Say something great about their mix and give some advice. Don’t post a link to your webpage. People see that you care about their music and will check it out themselfs. If they dont then w/e but they wont put you into their head as “that guy who only wants attention to his mix”

MemberI don’t know which platforms you’re on, but try to aim for the people that are willing to really listen your stuff. It’s not about the amount of plays, but about the feedback. And if people like your stuff, they will keep coming back and tell their friends about it. One thing I always do is making the sets downloadable. People download it and play it in the car or even on little parties etc. If there are other people around at those moments they will ask the owner of the ipod what it is. It takes a lot of time, but in that way you get listeners that really care about your music and not just a lot of plays because everybody only listened for 10 seconds…

MemberGot some great advices guys. I get what you mean with flattery, and it makes sense that you should aim for the people that are willing to listen to your tracks.
I always make my mixtapes downloadable. It was favoured by 2 people and got 40 listeners in 3 days, which I don’t find bad when I take in account that I only have 22 followers, and that I don’t pay for Soundcloud. But none downloaded it unfortunately.
