I would say those are the 2 big guns.
You may also want to consider Virtual DJ 7 (or 8 when it is released) based on what your needs are.

If you give a brief description of what you want to do and what kind of music you want to spin members can probably help lead you to the best match (although a lot of it comes down to personal preference)

Valid point. I’m currently working for a mobile DJ company but would eventually like to be doing it on my own and trying to get into a club setting. Preferably in the electronic/industrial/EBM or alternative/indie/rock and–perhaps with the proper notoriety–metal.

The company I work for is investing in controllers for VirtualDJ, but I have yet to work with it.

IMO it is like this in popularity:

    Traktor
    Viritual DJ
    Serato Scratch Live
    Serato Itch
    Ableton Live
    Others

It seems more and more to me that Traktor is or is to be the industry standard of software for DJ’s
But in US it seems to be a whole lot of people using VDJ…..I think all of the progs are good and you should try them all before purchase. Traktor VDJ and Ableton has free try outs of their programs on their sites to download.
SSL needs their hardware to work and ITCH only comes bundled with the controllers that is for that sw.

virtual dj is good for beginners getting into the standard deck and mixer setup although traktor might seem harder to understand it is much better once mastered in my honest opinion.

    I personally like Torq…but that’s me.

Most appreciative for all the feedback. I’ve yet to acquire the funds to make some purchases, but at least I have direction now.

+1 on Traktor even though I dont use it. I have a great respect for this program and if I wasnt using Live this would be my choice.

I totally prefer traktor. But sadly, lately I bought a controller which came with VDJ. so, i to live with it until I get enough cash to buy Traktor 2

my vote is for traktor pro, the effects and customisation are fantastic. vdj has better builtin scripting. torq is interesting but i haven’t really tried it, just a quick look using the torq2 demo. serato seems to be more popular in the usa than europe and you really need a rane device and timecode to get the most out of it, but u can add controllers on top.
