    I use Wavepad, which is for both OS X and Windows. Think of it as Audacity on steroids.

    I haven’t dabbled in Wavepad would you recommend it over audacity then i assume? What can you do with it that your not able to do with audacity?

    I highly recommend it. It has all the other features of Audacity, and is much easier to use. I mainly use it to convert .wavs to .mp3s though. It’s a lot more user-friendly (in my opinion), and I think there are a couple more built-in effects than Audacity.

    ableton. When I first got it I was like 😮 “I’m never gonna figure all this out” But after a week or two of reading/watching tutorials and a lot of experimentation I became quite comfortable with it. It’s very straightforward once you know your way around it. The only thing I don’t know how to do with it is DJ lol. Every now and then I’ll use reason but I use that mostly for creating stuff not editing.

    I’m currently on mac osx and have audacity but would like to get a program that’s a bit more “grown-up” lol like soundforge.

    I use Ableton 8 for my Music Editing/and DJ Mixing; and my OS is Windows 7;
    But for ‘Finalising’ my Mixes I will either ‘Master’ them myself; or use Izoptope Ozone 4

    A question, Is Izotope Ozone similar to T-racks? (I mean, does it do the same work?)

    And about the main question, I sometimes use Audacity on GNU/Linux (specifically LMDE and Linux Mint).

    Although, have you tried Steinberg Wavelab? That’s some old and well down software. Another good option is Adobe Audition. Both are for Mac OS X and MS Windows

    Hello Irwin :);
    Yes; from what I have just seen at their Main Site; ‘T-Racks’ is a Mastering Suite as ‘Izotope Ozone 4’ is;
    I made my Decision on Ozone 4 after watching YouTube Videos Extensively (from Izotope); and listening to the Experience of Top DJ’s/Producers who use it (DJ Vespers and others); I feel it is the Same with All things really; that we ‘Get What We Pay For’; but I would ‘Expect’ that Cubase and Soundforge to have their ‘Own Mastering Facilities’ Within the Programme; as Ableton does;

    I use Sound Forge to normalize and “wave hammer” my mixes.

    I use dbPowerAMP Music Converter to make them into MP3s. I just have used it for a long time and I like it.

    I do wonder if any of the other wav editing titles have something like the “wave hammer” function Sound Forge has?

    Well yeah, it’s a Sony thing.

    I was just curious if Audacity or Wavepad have something like that.

    Well, the WaveHammer it’s a Compressor+Maximizer packed in a 2-Stage processor. Audacity do have a Maximizer, but it is called “Amplifier” and a Compressor called, err, “Compressor”

    Although, Audacity can load some LADSPA plugins (which are similar to VST ones) and you can use the “Barry’s Satan Maximiser”. Pretty nice, but if you tweak the knobs you’ll get a brutal overdose of maximization, and, we don’t want that, right?

    So, the user can emulate the WaveHammer by doing a correction with a Compressor and/or Normalizer build in Audacity, and then apply the Amplifier or the “BS Maximizer” and get the sound by ear, but I think it’ll take time to do such a thing.

    Cheers!

    I always used Soundforge but when I switched to a Mac was surprised that it isn’t available on Mac. I have Twisted Wave running on the Mac and it does everything I want – pretty similar to Soundforge to be honest.

    I use Audacity, but if I had some extra cash I would use Audition I think. That said i’ve never really mastered my mixes.
