Not 100% sure on how hard they are but I’ve got a few mates who DJ fairly regularly at same of the bigger clubs in the city and they’ve never been scanned for piracy…most of the DJ’s I know pirate their music to at least some extent as well.

Jakarta, Indonesia. Some clubs play progressive house and RnB. But the music that’s played most in Indonesian’s clubs are called FUNKOT a.k.a. “City House”. Locally produced and running around 180-195 bpm. I hate the sounds of it so much!
Recently, there have been attempt to bring back the music from 70s, 80s and 90s into the scene. We label this genre as Classic Disco.

Sounds pretty bad to me too, not that I’ve every heard any.

Well, just in case you are wondering what a “funkot’ sounds like, here are two examples:

I personally can’t stand it at all. But it’s so popular in Indonesia. 🙂

I’m at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Here the scene is a little bit of all, knowing that the majority prefers hip hop, house and “funk carioca”, but have all sorts of music. I don’t know what to say more about here, all sorts of places… there are some samba nightclubs as well, but it is more popular for foreigners and 35+ old people
