    Ableton was originally created for production but happens to be decent at DJing with too. Traktor was made originally for DJing but has evolved to have some live remixing capabilities using the remix decks. For traditional “standard” mixing then Traktor is the clear winner. For the more modern, layered (often pre-planned) type of mixing then Ableton wins. Considering that you can still have some of your Ableton-style workflow using the remix decks then Traktor is a good option. Its a solid piece of software that is aggressively trying to become the industry standard so you know the developers will work hard on it. The price is even more attractive.     I would defiantly recommend you using Traktor. I use it with the Traktor Kontrol S2 when out gigging. But I also use Traktor scratch at home with my CDJ’s via DVS. Awesome piece of software.

    Ableton is also an awesome piece of software for producing….. Never DJ’d with it though, simply because I love using Traktor so much.

    Another vote for traktor here. Ive used ableton for production and thought oh I could dj with it too but got a shot of traktor and switched to that pretty quickly. In ableton you need to warp all your tracks, some are ok but sometimes it can be very time consuming unlike traktor, when I get a track thats not working in traktor I fix it in ableton then put it back in traktor, always works whereas sometimes with ableton id be tinkering for ages, done me ed in

    If you are used to Ableton then bridged with traktor. The best of both world.

    Can you bridge it with Traktor? Isn’t it bridged with Itch only? Traktor is so cheap now its not a bad investment to hold on to even if you use it infrequently. There might be times when you just want to grab a set of tunes and spin without any thinking. Traktor suit perfectly.

    You can’t as far as I know bridge Ableton to Traktor. However, if you DJ with Serato Scratch Live, you can us “The Bridge” to link Ableton with it, letting you DJ with Ableton within SSL. Definitely worth looking at I’d say.

    You can sync it using the midi clock and “JACK” the sound from traktor into ableton, don’t know how well it works if you change the pitch but it should be okay for a constant tempo… The thing is that if you are doing this no doubt you will be syncing in traktor, then using the eq3 and the effects of ableton for the final mixing.. So really you should probably just focus on ableton as traktor will only be playing the track and sending the midi clock.

    If you do decide to use both get zestoi’s free midimasher app. I have had many conversations with him about it and he has set it up as a hub for all your controllers, but to further that you can send some controls on the same controller to ableton and some to traktor as well as virtual shift layers to do it all for you. It is a very good program and Pete loves helping people and talking about his creation.

    If Ableton is working for you stick with it. To me it seems odd to switch to Traktor just because everyone else is. However you can download a demo of Traktor, so take it for a test drive and see what you think. Being a traktor user myself I find it impossible to DJ using Ableton, as it doesn’t suit my needs, but that’s just me.

    Well I am always against doing what everyone else does hehe 😉
    On a serious note: Stick with what works for you. I did never care about the fanboys that claim they got the “only thing” and it is “the bestest” etc. All the software is tools for an artist to create some magic, out of passion for music. If Ableton is that tool for you, stay with it. (And many Pro’s use Ableton exclusively…)

    @KierenJames and @Terry_42 I think you guys are right. I already have a working knowledge of Ableton, so maybe what i really just need to do is practice more, get some more gigs, and just hone my skills at ableton.
