Sorry you had that experience Howitzer.
I think you hit the nail on the head there mate. While I enjoy modern clubbing, I am yerning for a sense of community.
You have nothing to be sorry for man, its merely my own experience.

Off topic maybe, but I think this is a sign of the times.
When I first went to a ‘night club’ the music was all top 20 chart hits with a cheesy DJ on the mic. If you didn’t have shiny shoes and a pair of ‘dress pants’ on you weren’t getting in. There was a good chance that there would be violence involved at some point of the evening.
My first experience of an alternative to this were illegal warehouse parties in Blackburn, followed by visits to clubs such as Konspiracy in Manchester or Quadrant Park in Liverpool. This was all very underground and the sense of community was all about being in the know and doing something different to the mainstream.
Nowadays, that culture IS mainstream (albeit a watered down version) and we’re back to where we started in a lot of respects. There are still clubs that foster a sense of community but they are few and far between and more the doing of indy promoters putting on underground nights.
History tells us that these counter culture movements occur periodically, I wonder what the next one will be… ?

MemberThere are no retail shops for 2 hours that have anything remotely going to. Online for me. I love sitting down on beatport or juno and searching!

MemberI miss the in person shopping but some of the prices they are asking do not make it that of a loss for me. It does saddens me to see so many stores disappearing from the city.
Online is just easier to find things but you can also get carried away easier as you do not have to carry anything back home.

MemberYou know what I miss about buying records?
Being passed a crisp, virginal, shrinkwrapped import across the counter and opening the shrinkwrap by quickly swiping the edge of the sleeve along my jeans.
Always a sign that you were ‘in the know’
😀

Import 12’s are shrinkwrapped so you have to open the shrinkwrap to get to the record. You can either struggle along picking at it with your fingers or do it the cool way by giving the edge a quick swipe back and forth on your thigh – the friction opens the end nice and neat allowing you to slip the record out. 😎

So you run the edge of the record along your jeans and that rips a neat hole in it? Cool.
