    Jack,

Personally, I would go for the S4.
The main reason for this being that its an “expandable” hardware piece.
What I mean by this, is that its built in sound card will allow you to expand your setup.
E.G. Connecting turntables with timecoded vinyl or CDJ’s with timecoded CD’s. (tonecode in Serato terms.)

There are ways to Map out the S2 and S4 to work with VDJ.

In my opinion, if you’re going to be using your hard earned money to acquire a controller, you might as well spend the few extra bucks to get a controller you could use in the long run.

As far as a learning curve, it all depends on you.
Work hard at your passion, and you’ll be able to accomplish unlimited things!

    Keep on spinnin’ !

WOW thanks you put a lot of work into that. One more q….should u buy the N4 or buy the NUMARK ns6?

N4 has 4 knobs & buttons for effects, the NS6 has 1 slider and an endless encoder, however the ns6 is much better build quality. both work with VDJ natively, but only the NS6 works with itch although the N4 works with intro. When all is said and done I say you should get the Reloop terminal4mix, it’s a happy medium between both controllers, it has the feature set of the N4 but a build quality closer to the NS6. There was a great review by Phil on the blog recently.

If you want to use traktor get a Numark 4track, however this will not be useable in itch and probably won’t be natively mapped to VDJ as native instruments usually don’t allow it, doesn’t mean users can’t map it though.

the same applies, the N4 and S4 are about the same build quality, the selling point is the HID jogs. I still think the 4track is better, it has the same jog HID protocol from what I have read so should be a solid performer in traktor.

The S4 doesn’t work in itch, but has been mapped to VDJ in midi mode, but unfortunately Native Instruments don’t make all the buttons available for mapping in midi.
