ParticipantHey. I don’t know if it will make sense to you and other DJs, but I had a similar experience when trying the new rekordbox…
But I put a SSD and made a boot in windows from this disk just to play, and now everything runs as smoothly as it should when playing… rekordbox is not yet the most stable system while importing files, but since I made this change, no more problems for playing and recording, even whit video expansion pack!
i believe tht once you have put an SSD you will play happily, cause files load much faster, and the system is runnig like never before.
Tell us if you can do it, is much more cheap than a new computer

KeymasterA separate user account usually does not do it. You need to boot another Windows.
Also Lenovo is prone to driver problems at this time they driver and mainboard quality is really really bad, the days of IBM are long gone, hence so many businesses switching away from Lenovo towards HP and Dell and Lenovo getting cheaper and cheaper.September 20, 2016 at 7:22 pm #2448411Karlton Bethea
ParticipantJennifer, Terry 42,
Thank you both for your responses. I am taking both of them into consideration to try to solve this issue. Jennifer, could you explain please…what is a SSD? Is it some change I make on the computer and how do I make a boot in windows? Is this like a reboot of the system? Sorry, I’m not the most computer savvy person.
Thanks again,

ParticipantHello. There’s a lot to shut down in win 10 to make the system fast and stable. Mos of it is account dependable, so you need to do it in all your profiles. First, make sure you have an Antivirusprogram that you can disable. If you use the windows antivirus, it’s difficult to close down. AVG is a free AV that you can choose to close down for playing sessions. Make sure you don’t have any other unnecessary program running in the background. Install CCleaner and use it to first clean out all junk, and then you go in to the settings and close down everything that starts automatically. Also don’t forget to close down CCleaner from autostart.
Go in to Windows settings and find ”Background apps”. There’s about 20-30 apps running as standard in Win 10. Close them all. Also make sure you close down all ”sending info to Microsoft’ and make sure your computer ONLY get updates from internet. Standard settings is sharing updates with everyone else on the internet. Saving bandwidth for MS, taking yours instead.
Make sure Windows update is closed down when you use your computer to DJ. You need to get into Services and double tap on ”windows update” and set it to disabled.
If you have upgraded from Win 7/8, you will have to use the build in disc cleaner to get rid of all the junk that comes with the installation. More than 20GB of junk can be erased if you haven’t erased any yet.
If you have a normal spinning hdd, opposite to SSD, it’s a good idea to run a defragmentation program after cleaning out all the junk. Defraggler is a good free option, same company that does CCleaner. If you have a SSD drive, do not use defraggler. SSD=Drive with no moving parts, like a flash memory. Draws less power and creates less heat. Best option for laptops on the move and in shaky environments.
Good luck!

Participant…also make sure your computer runs at full speed. Not balanced. Make sure at least the CPU runs att full speed, and that nothing can go in to sleep mode, for any reason.

ModeratorSSD = Solid State Disk. As opposed to a regular hard disk this has no moving parts and any part of the disk can be accessed immediately. Thus much faster than a hard disk.
Dual Boot. You can install two instances of your Windows on your hard disk (you will have to divide the disk into two so-called partitions). At startup you then get the choice of what instance to start. You could have a general and a DJ instance. They are totally unconnected, so messing up your general instance won’t hurt your DJ one. And you can keep your DJ instance as clean as possible (several guides online on how to optimize certain windows versions for DJ-ing).
If you are not computer-savvy, I’d try to find a friend or someone in the community that can help you with that.

ParticipantWow,
Lots of great information! Thanks to Terry, Jennifer, Vintage and Peter. I have a lot to try to sort out with regards to my computer situation. I was advised also to maybe think of changing to a Macbook Pro (But more than a grand for a computer, I don’t think so). Anyway, I will try (with the help of some people who know a lot more about this computer thing than I do) to make these changes and let you all know how it turns out. Lastly, thanks for not busting me out for spelling “Seratto” wrong in the title…LOL!As always, thanks for all the advice,

ModeratorAs for the Macbook Pro, there is no shame in buying used. A three year old i5 with an SSD and 4-8GB (preferably 8, but 4 will work usually) will be a perfect laptop and it will keep value, so if you move to another (three year old) MBP in two years, you can actually sell your old one for still some serious money.
You really cannot compare the value degradation of a windows laptop with that of an Apple. So your decision-making process needs to contain different parameters, imho of course.

ParticipantHi Karlton,
next to all the -good- advice, try a laptop cooler. Might be an over heating issue. Also check the USB cable. Cables do fail, especially when they get older. Buy a quality USB cable and see if the issue happens again..

ParticipantKing of Snake,
As always great advise from the “DDJT Crew” that is truly appreciated. Do yo have any advise on quality USB cables that can be used with the Pioneer DDJ SX2 and with external hard drives?
Thanks,
