Keymaster1. Yes – sometimes. It is mostly independent stuff and backcatalogue, so there are no current Top40 (for the most part). However it is nice to discover some “secret pearls”. I also use it to bolster some sets or to get some nice “in betweeners”. The good thing is, that there are some nice remixes that are not publicly available anywhere else and that most of the time acapella and instrumental versions are available too. However I would never use it as my only source for music.
2. They will automatically go down to 64. However what I do is I download a bunch of tunes that sound interesting on the site, put them in a playlist with my controller running on my DJ office desk and just hit auoplay in Serato. So it will play them full quality automatically while I am on the office couch listening and browsing on my iPad. If a tune hits my I make a note.
It honestly is a great and underrated feature, but as I said it is not the end.
However it can save you a load of money. I usually buy tunes for 8-15 bucks per months via iTunes or beatport to stay current and hit some remixes etc. via whitelabel. This is way cheaper than any of the payed DJ pools.May 10, 2016 at 6:10 pm #2393291Arkadiusz Mikina
ParticipantMega, thanks Terry for an update.
1. Great feedback. Good to know that white label can and should be used as supplementary source of (free and legal) music. Also the fact that there is some stuff that is not available elsewhere is quite an intriguing thing. I guess my question was boiling down to the fact if one use whitelabel as the only source of music – which you clarified, many thanks. When you are logged to this portal/resource can you actually preview play tunes on there by clicking ‘Play’ on there?
2. Thanks for your tip on how to go around the 64 issue. Great idea. Also, I understand that these files have different extension (wl.mp3) – can I download these tracks to a computer, then copy them to a mobile player (cowon J3) and play them there with headphones while for example running ? (obviously in 64 quality)
Yeah, it surprises me that few people talk about this feature of Serato ecosystem (or even know about it). I think that Serato is not marketing it properly with their software. Didn’t Traktor have similar feature with beatport by any chance?
8-15 bucks per month + utilizing whitelabel sounds very reasonable! thanks for tip Terry

ModeratorAnd I am guessing that the emphasis will shift even further towards the cooperation with PulseLocker

Participantthat well may be true Vintage.
Are you using Pulselocker at all ?May 11, 2016 at 12:49 am #2393341DJ Vintage
ModeratorNot really … played with it during the free trial. Haven’t signed up yet. But then again, I am not a Serato user (although I have full version). My tool of choice is Mixvibes Cross, which has SoundCloud integration at the moment. This I don’t use either, who needs SoundCloud after all 😀

KeymasterSorry I have never tried copying that music on any other device, but according to the specs it should play in 64. But listening to a good tune in 64 even while running would make me want to vomit more than run…
Also just used pulselocker for the free trial. It is OKish, but I really do not need it. For music exploration (aka what will I buy) I am currently using Amazon Prime Music. I actually bought the prime subscription for the video and fast amazon shipping option, but the music player and suggestions are actually quite good and you can directly buy the tunes you want to own and DJ…

Participantthanks for opinion guys
It seems to me that Serato has gone a bit too restrictive with this 64 thing- I mean common. If one has a verified account on Serato after buying their product, it should be ok for me to listen to music from white label in hight quality where I want e.g. in the car or from a mobile player while on the go and not only when ‘physical controller is connected’. They must have had their reasons I suppose (probably were afraid of people abusing white label free music resource).
Thanks for the tip on Prime Music Terry – may be very handy. I wouldn’t have thought of this resource tbh.
This the ‘Prime Music’ part comes under the ‘Amazon Prime’ membership or does one have to pay for it extra apart from paying for Prime?
So all in all, Prime Music is a really good player and suggestion tool right? There is no music available ‘for free’ when signed up to this service right?thanks

KeymasterWell first: I actually spoke to someone from Serato about Whitelabel and they said that they have very strict rules from the record labels about how they are handling it. They actually would love to give you the tunes for free in best quality for all they care, but they cannot. So it is not on Serato’s end what the rules of Whitelabel are, but due to record companies dictacting them those rules.
Yes Prime Music is included in the standard Amazon Prime membership, nothing extra is needed.
Music is not “for free” per se in the Music Player, but as long as your mobile phone or tablet/PC does support an Amazon Prime app you can even download the tunes and listen to them without internet for a period of time when they “re-check” if you are still subscribed. Of course you can play those only in the Amazon Prime Music player. So in order to DJ with them you buy them and get the standard HQ mp3 download (similar to beatport mp3s). However sometimes mp3s are discounted for Prime members, I have bought tunes for as low as 50cent (no pun intended).May 12, 2016 at 9:50 pm #2394071Arkadiusz Mikina
Participantmega! thanks Terry
Prime Music service sounds more and more appealing I must admit
last question though:
Is Amazon Prime app available for OS X i.e. using it on MacBooks or only phones/tablets please?
thxMay 17, 2016 at 8:52 am #2395711Terry_42
KeymasterPrime app is available for OS X, Windows 10, iOS, Android and Windows Mobile 10. So you are pretty much covered anywhere.

Participantgreat! thanks Terry
This really sounds cool. I think that a combo of (free) whitelabel with Serato gear + paid Amazon Prime (Music) sounds like a really good solution.
One last question if you don’t mind please Terry.
As far as music exploration and suggestions in Amazon Music player you mentioned. How does it work exactly?
I mean, the Amazon Music is an app that has to be installed on the laptop (Macbook in my case) in order to use or is also available on the amazon website after having logged in or both are possible?
Then when happens? Say you search for a track on Amazon and play/cue it in Amazon Music player (which is installed on a laptop or on the website kind of a player) and when it finishes to play the player with automatically play suggestions based on that track or something?many thanks for detailed feedback
much appreciatedMay 18, 2016 at 9:58 am #2396351Terry_42
