It said on the reloop site press release for the terminal 4 that the slicer will be available with a future update, I read it just after it was announced.

this is what it currently says

or with future software updates this section can be enhanced even further with brand new performance modes (Cut’n’Slice) for live remixing.

It doesn’t seem to me like it would be hard for them to update their business model quite quickly. Leave the software alone, have Intro as the free “included” LE version with controllers, Itch as a paid full version (and unlocked to any midi controller), and SSL as the hardware dependent version.

There. Done. Now why is it taking them so long to see how easy that was? lol

I totally agree… something is taking too long here…

they would need to change a fairly large chunk of the program to make it open to mapping and they would lose the plug and play that serato seem to pride themselves on or they would need to keep it locked but add the extra controllers and roll out a new registration system to existing users. If they do the latter it would not be a good move to release a half done software excluding some of the intro controllers, as consumers are a fickle bunch who lose faith in a product very quickly when there are issues.

Honestly I do not think so. The code base for such a product is existing within Intro. Intro is a dialed down version of Itch and I am sure a lot of code has been re-used.
All they would have to do is make the freaking Itch features work in Intro (4-Decks, all the F/X with slicer, samplers,…) and Integrate some sort of License Number thing, then call it Serato DJ Pro and you’re done and it would work on all Intro Controllers. If they do that I would buy it hands down. As I hate having to work with Traktor atm…
But time is an issue, since VDJ 8 is around the corner it seems, when controllers are already announced with it (however that could be just as fake as the Serato controllers that were released hehe)

One thing’s for sure – something is definitely afoot. There’s no way all these four channel Serato (they say “Serato” on them, not “ITCH” or “Intro”) controllers would come along unable to work properly due to Intro only having two channels, without a clear upgrade patch to something. It doesn’t make sense for the hardware companies, and it certainly doesn’t make sense for Serato.
