    Is indexing service running? This CAN be a major resource gobbler, is ON by default and best shut off. Supposed to only index when the computer isn’t doing much else. However, it get’s the “idle computer” thing wrong from time to time.

    It would explain lots of HD i/o when there really shouldn’t be.
