I use Serato, but from what I’ve heard, Traktor is better for remixing on the fly. My $0.02 worth.

I never liked the “stiffness” of Traktor environment, not too user friendly too me plus other 1001 DJ’s used Traktor hah

I’ve tested Serato, Traktor and VDJ. I’ve settled onto Traktor. The one thing I’ve learned too with software and controllers is that if a controller comes packaged with a specific software (eg. Serato and DDJ SX) no other software will work as smoothly. I love the DDJ SX design. But I didn’t want to mess with getting Traktor to work with it. I love my Traktor S4. It just feels real tight. Everything works like it’s suppose to. My one beef with Traktor is the beat gridding. Can be a real pain with some older house traks, funk and R&B. I probably didn’t answer your question LOL!!

Well the remix decks are nice under 2 conditions:
    1. No matter what controller you have, you need 2 F1s to make it work perfectly (I know others work now, but I am talking “perfectly”)
    2. You need to be sure you will do more than beatjuggling and sample juggling, those work with any software. You need the remix sets and use the fully

Under those 2 conditions the remix decks shine and have (yet) no equal.

For everything else as with the latest version of Serato I would rather use Serato. Tighter jogwheels, studio F/X quality, nice sample triggering, slicer and loop roller (on the SX drum pads),…
I for example use more looproll and slicer plus some samples to do a “slight remix”, using the remix decks all the time with having to create remix sets all the time is just way to stressful to me and the Serato beatgrid, jogs and parallel waveforms are just so much nicer.
And yes the DDJ-SX is made for Serato and that is where it shines.

Even though I use Traktor Pro, I know enaugh other DJ’s who work with Serato.
As always, both have advantages and disadvantages, but both are more than suitable for daily DJ work. As I haven’t worked very much with Serato, I can just say why I love my Traktor 🙂
At first, I like the design and all of that. It sure is complicated for a beginner, as it was for me, but after a while, you just know how to handle all those things. Traktor might have a higher learning curve than Serato but rewards you for learning to work with it more. I’m perfectly sure that Serato could manage my DJing needs, but theres also the point of the flexibility of traktor. I could make a mapping for any kind of midi controller. I can’t do that with Serato. When you use Serato, you need to have the certified controllers. If you have those, good for you. A plus for Serato is that the jogwheel integration is said to be better than traktors, if you don’t get NI produced products. However, since I don’t need or have jogwheels, this is irrelevant to me.
You see, it’s all about the expectations you have 😉

Indeed any of the big softwares (Traktor, VDJ, Serato, MixVibes Cross) will work perfectly even for professional use.
It is about personal preference and the workflow you use.
I am a guy who loves traditional and high quality things, with occasional scratch, almost never use the sync button and just love parallel waveforms, elastic beatgrid and the like …

MixVibes has a pretty decent sample player implementation too.

Sampler comparison Traktor has perfect control over the Remix decks with the F1. Whit Serato there is not one of it supported controllers that has full control over the SP-6 sampler the iPad remote is the closest you get to fully control the SP-6. If you only want to trigger samples the all of the DDJ SX, VCI 400 – 380 and others with pads will do a grate job with the sampler but if you want to do more then it’s going to be mostly mouse triggering or mapping a new controller for it.
Of the current version Traktor and Mixvibe have the best samplers for the way I like to work. Serato is also good for triggering samples but VDJ sampler in the last several version is IMO a joke that might change in a couple of years when version 8 is released (that was a joke 😀 )
