In Traktor Pro 2 go to preferences>decks and switch a deck to sample deck.
I use the sample decks to bring back early parts of a mix towards the end of a set. Usually I’ll have an early recuring piece of percussion pop up throughout the set as well. This plus using it to transition out of one song and into another while still playing another. Makes the mix flow continue and frees up a main deck like Ryan said. The most I usually have going at once is usually two track decks and maybe 4 or 5 sample slots.
This is probably my best example of that.

MemberI’m trying to do the same thing with Traktor but am stuck on how to map the “create loop the copy into sample deck” feature. Does anyone know how to do this without using the mouse?

Yep, that would be a problem. IMO the update is well worth the money!

MemberI would love to, but I’ve spent enough money on the controller and the original Traktor. I’ve decided not to get any more gear until I’ve landed a paying gig.

Try this Rob:
Make your Loop; then Drag and Drop from the Track Title ‘While It Is In The Loop’ to the Sample DeckJuly 18, 2011 at 4:48 pm #4057Chris Jennings

add in>sample deck>load from deck and learn it to a button on your controller. Set it to direct then the sample slot you want it assigned to. Then tell it which deck it’s pulling from. It will automatically pull a sample that is whatever size the loop count is sitting at regardless of if a loop is active. If there’s an active loop in the deck the sample pulls from it will load a sample to match that size.
One of the things I do when I beatgrid my tracks now is to set a loop in certain spots in the song that might make a good sample. That way I can jump to the loop and put the sample in a slot to bring in bits of the next song. I’ll also use the sample in the song often playing over what it’s sampled from for a cool phasing/delay kind of effect.
