DJ Vintage, I sense your passion and you make some valid points, alot of thought went into that 🙂 and I agree its a great forum to discuss things and ask for opinions, mutual respect is key as we all have common interest.

I do however think I have found a solution of sorts. I currently use Rekordbox and a Laptop, If I use Rekordbox DJ pack I can add samples and also 2 further decks (not that i can use all of them at once lol) and I can control all the tracks on the laptop from each XDJ1000 so thats simple enough.

Its very difficult choosing the right gear and its not something I took lightly, I spent ages looking at different gear, controllers and modular kit etc and came to this conclusion, the controllers are great and they just get better every time something new is launched but I just like the size and feel of these, my last controller just felt too small.

Anyway in the end with a bit of help from the forum I think its solved so thank you all for the input.
BTW sorry for reporting you DJ Vintage, frustration got the better of me lol (im not perfect, so the Mrs keeps telling me)

    Cheers

No worries Mark, we know the furstration. We went through similar transitions (just a few years earlier).
Take me I had a full Pioneer 2000 setup… sold it all.

Also thanks Vintage for the confidence in my skills 🙂 I have become somewhat of a badass with the Slicer and Roller, still have to master Flip… hehe

And yes one of the most hard thing is let go of past memories. Actually one of the last things I sold were my Technics 🙂 (and I still have one sitting in the basement in a case, just for memories sake hehe)

But these experiences are also why we are so passionate in our opinion of digital. It is totally liberating and the amount of creative freedom I have today I am hitting my head why I did not change sooner… This is also why sometimes passion takes over for us moderators hehe

Vintage, I think you totally misunderstood my comment about a good high quality mixer because your statement proves exactly the point of what I am actually saying.

If you invested in a solid 4 channel mixer 10, 15, or 20 years ago, you could still be using it as a part of your daily setup. Yes, you would likely have lots of other bits now around it, but as a piece of hardware it would still be returning ROI. It might be old, but not outdated. I dare say there are not many controllers built that way (I’ve owned my share now). Most are designed to be replaced as your feature sets evolve (the disposable nature of a lot of modern hardware is something we have all grumbled about many times on these forums). And when it’s replacement time, everything goes out the door – nothing is salvaged. A solid mixer in the heart of a modular setup can last many, many times longer than any of the trendy components around it.

So yes, I will absolutely stand by my statement. A good 4-channel DJ mixer is one of the most versatile pieces of DJ kit a person can own. I ** can ** do absolutely anything Terry can, and with a 7 year old mixer model, because the components that surround my mixer make it every bit as compatible with modern all-in-one controllers, and should something new come along, I can add it without blinking an eye.
