    I can’t stand when DJs do that! It’s so egotistical! Even one of my favourite DJ/Producers does it EVERY TIME. The party will be going off, and then his set will start and he’ll drop it to 124 with some spacey tech and then build it up so the party can be HIS.

    Obviously sometimes it can work, but you can usually see it on people’s faces “why did you do that? I was having fun!”

    Agreed, you have to be careful doing that stuff. I remember seeing a DJ duo once follow my warm-up in a club, who did quite the opposite to what you say.

    They respected what I’d been playing (I was holding back of course as a warm.up DJ should, but I knew my crowd, and was getting them interested), they built on it, they played “safe” tunes until they had the place screaming… and THEN, only then, they smashed into THIER music, what made THEM buzz… and by that point they had the whole club on their side.

    That’s one way to do it, at least 🙂
