ParticipantThere was a quick overview video here, but for more detail Mojaxx over at DJ City did a comprehensive review a week or two ago, and the short version is he loved the thing.

ParticipantYeah, I saw that too. Not saying he isn’t trustworthy or something, but if I spend so much money, I would love to have a few more opinions. It’s still a pretty new piece of equipment, so there isn’t that much out there yet. (Although so far everybody seems to love it and the only negative thing I’ve heard so far is “It’s the same as the RMX 80, only with an audio interface”.)

ParticipantIt’s the same as the RMX 80
And I think that’s the key, as if I remember correctly, the RMX 80 was a pretty well reviewed mixer on it’s own. But let’s think of it this way – if this is your budget, you aren’t going to find anything else even remotely close without tossing in another $500 USD, and that unit is probably going to require you to buy the Serato Club Kit to use it, bringing the cost up even more.

ParticipantThe Serato licence (Apparently the vinyl ships with it too) isn’t even that much of a dealbreaker for me, since I don’t have any other Serato compatible gear and most likely can’t use anything but the mixer (and my Laptop) with it. (Still, it’s nice to have a full license.) Unfortunately I haven’t seen any tests with other DJ software yet. They all say it has fully mappable Midi functionality and some name dropped Traktor and even Ableton, but I haven’t seen anybody actually testing it with any of those.
Okay, in all fairness, even if the Midi mapping isn’t working as well in other softwares, I will most likely still have a good external mixer, but then I could also buy a much cheaper one.
(Note: Apologies if I’m a little bit rambling and it’s hard to understand what I want. It’s the hottest day in years over here and my apartment is on the 5th floor, right under the roof, on the side where the sun is shining for most of the day.)

ModeratorOk. Before I can start saying something (hopefully) useful here, enlighten us with your complete (intended) setup.
I just answered another post and I think the advice there might fit you as well. Why not go the route of getting a DVS-ready 4-channel controller, hooking up your TTs, running all of it through your software (VDJ would be your best bet here I think) and have a 4-deck, 4-channel setup. Just add speakers and your laptop and a couple of TC vinyls and off you go.
As said in the other post, likely candidates would be:
Pioneer DDJ-SX2 (around 950 euro with full Serato)
Pioneer DDJ-RX (same price with full RekordBox)
Denon MC7000 (around 850 euro with full Serato)
Denon MCX8000 (around 1.150 euro with full Serato)
The Reloop RMX goes for around 1.000 euro here, so all of these are in the same price range. If you’d want some extra buttons, you’d still need either something like the Reloop Neon or the AKAI AFX controllers to add to the RMX.
Up to you of course, but this seems like a much more versatile setup and won’t be anymore expensive than going the RMX road.

ParticipantI have a 4 (technically 3) deck setup, consisting of:
Laptop with VDJ (although I also own Traktor and I’m not afraid to use it, I just don’t like it that much)
external 4 Channel mixer (Behringer DJX900 USB)
2 Numark NDX 800 (which I use as controller, but sometimes as CDJs)
Hercules DJ Control Steel (which used to be my main controller, but now I use it only for some Deck 3 stuff)
Numark Orbit (for some extra buttons)Apart from the mixer, I currently don’t need to replace any of it (And even the mixer doesn’t NEED replacement, although it seems that it will be soon) and like I said earlier, the main reason why I aim for the RMX-90, is that it’s available in a shop that offers installment payment. It’s not a DJ or music store, so they only have very few DJ equipment. I’m even surprised that they have this one!
Basically I’m just jumping at the possibility to upgrade one part of my equipment.

ParticipantWell, first things first: Yes, I think you’d be more than happy with the Reloop for a very long time. If you are satisfied with the workflow of your current rig overall, the new mixer wouldn’t radically change that but you’d have a much higher quality piece at the core (both in terms of sound output and actual build). Plus, as you mention, this route gives you financing options others do not.
I’m a modular guy myself, so I’m loving the sound of your Frankenstein’ed together system. BUT… In the interested of balanced opinions – Vintage has some serious options you should consider. Any of the controllers he lists would give you a full four deck system with a lot less hassle during the setup – the controller would replace the mixer, the Orbit, the Hercules, and the two Numark decks. For shows where you still had need of CDs, bring one NDX along and connect it to the controller. All of the controllers Vintage mentions are VDJ compatible, so you’d have no software issues (I’m never as sure with Traktor as I don’t get a clear read on the direction NI is headed anymore – but if you prefer VDJ it’s a non issue anyway).
The drawbacks? Well, obviously money if you can’t get the same sort of financing arrangement. Also, all of those controllers operate the software decks via a midi mixer mode instead of as a hardware mixer (they do operate as hardware mixers for the external inputs). So you lose a little bit of room on the audio sculpting with that, and you are introducing latency onto your mixer components. But with a well running laptop those drawbacks are minimal and most people will tell you they can’t notice a difference. They bother me, but as has been established elsewhere on this forum, I’m an insane person. ;-P
You won’t really be going wrong with any of these options – so don’t stress about making the wrong choice. Just think about what you are currently doing, and what you’d like to be doing a year or two from now, and pick the route that gives you the workflow to get there. Good luck!

ParticipantI’ve been a controller-only guy before (I mentioned the Hercules DJ Control Steel), but basically I decided to go modular, because I own a lot of CDs and wanted to have a chance to mix analogue, if I wanted to. I’m not against going back to controllers and can imagine that I will, once my Numarks stop working (again depending on my financial situation and the pricing of the available hardware), but for now modular is my way to go.
So in the end I think I’m gonna with the RMX-90. Not gonna order it immediately (I’ll most likely wait a few more weeks), but so far I haven’t seen or heard anything negative about it.
Of course if anybody here still wants to share his or her opinion and experience with it, feel free to do so.

ParticipantWell…I did it. I bought one. It arrived a few hours ago and so far I really like it. Not sure if I will ever write a full review of it on here, but if you have any question, I try to answer them and if something super excites or annoys me, you will hear it from me too.
