The rekordbox button means you have a laptop with rekordbox connected via USB to the CDJ, the USB button means you have a stick wether it be with rekordbox prepared or not, this will be detected automatically.

No you do not need the stick in that case, the whole idea is to hook up the laptop rather than the stick.
HOWEVER I will advise against it as rekordbox (at least for me) has proven to be very unstable when used this way and there is nothing worse than your music stopping because rekordbox crashed on your laptop.

So I would strongly advise to use the USB stick rather than the laptop or use the laptop with a DJ Software (like Traktor or Cross) and put the Nexus players into HID mode, which is far more stable than rekordbox.

Ok thanks for that! I would prefer to use traktor with the decks but i don’t think the hid supports traktor on the 900 nexus?

It is not yet on the supported player list, sadly.

…have a stick wether it be with rekordbox prepared or not, …

What makes the difference concerning functionality on Pioneer gear?

    A) Not all Pioneer players are RekordBox ready, in which case it’s useful to have a plain stick
    B) Rekordbox allows you to create playlists, set cue and loop points that can all be read by RekordBox-enabled players. To not use those facilities on players that support it is a bit of a waste imho.

Concerning playlists: What makes the difference between a rekordbox-playlist and a playlist made out of plain Windows-Folders?

    Thank you!

For one, it’s impossible (unless you manipulate file names) to get the correct order in a folder, it will always sort on some column. Also searching the index of a RekordBox prepared stick is MUCHHHHHHH !!! faster than using search functions on a plain stick. If you know exactly where every track is in a relatively small collection, it’s no problem. If you are a mobile DJ with a ton of tracks, you are in trouble with only a rotary knob to search for tracks.

If you use the playlist made out of plain windows folder, err its a pain in the arse,
first how you order them ? For example, I want to play this Song A first, then song B next, you have to manually rename them to err zzz, 01-SongA, 02-SongB,
In rekordbox, all you gotta do create a Playlist, arrange your songs, named the Playlist “MYAWSHOMESUPADUPASETLISTCUZIMASUPADUPADJ”, and then just clicked import them to your USB stick, then you opened them up in cdj, and then just browse to your Playlist folder and find your playlist (err no im not goin to attempt to typed the name of my playlist again lol)

Plus it loads your wave much faster in your cdj, cuz rekordbox analyzed them already

There is a serious privacy issue about RB 3
