I’d use audacity to record vinyl. It has more and better tools to clean up the recording afterwards too.

Also, check for digital version of the music you have on vinyl already. Will save you loads of time and more often than not be a better quality.

From my 650+ vinyl collection (all that is left from my one time 2.500 🙂 ), I ended up ripping about 10 that were so unique I couldn’t find any decent digital copy online.

I would have dreaded having to do all 650 of them … brrrr

    Thanks for reply.

Can I use my audio 6 in audacity?

Yeah it’s just the cost of getting music, seeing as I’ve already bought it once already, and gives me a good excuse to tell the Mrs why I need to play my records.

While we do not condone downloading illegal material in any way here, I have to admit that I think downloading a digital copy of a track you own on vinyl, bought and paid (a lot more than if you had bought the mp3 in the first place) for, isn’t a crime (at least morally). I mean you don’t actually buy a track, all you officially buy is the right to listen to it. So, all your doing is finding another medium to carry the track you have paid the right to listen to already. I mean you paid your due to the artist for his effort. Paying him twice for the same thing makes no real sense, although the artist would probably like that lol.

It’s not like you are downloading tracks that you don’t already have without paying for them, which is in no way ok as you cheat the artist out of his money.

You should be able to use any soundcard in audacity. Just make sure to go into Edit|Preferences (I think those are the English terms, I use a Dutch version), on the left select Devices (should be the default even) and under the header “record” on the right hand side, select the Audio 6 as input. Set channels to 2 (sterero) and you should be good to go.

It used to even be LEGAL to do that, but the laws have been shifted to protect an antiquated business model.

Thanks for all your help. I’ll probably record the ones that I want to listen to the most as I don’t want to burn all of them
