Hi there, you can host your website anywhere 🙂
Depending on what you are going to be doing with your site will determine what services/package you need in your hosting.
If its just a basic site with info, pics and links then basic hosting is all you need.
Most people (non-tech types) opt for a wordpress account, its easy to use, update and the available styles/themes are endless.
I have my own hosting server service as i host sites for friends and small businesses, I use 123-reg.co.uk for most domain name purchases.

How easy is it to migrate from wordpress to another host provider should I decide to upgrade in the future?

I actually suggest keeping your hosting separate from your domain services. You won’t have to go through hell moving a domain if you dislike your host.

As for WordPress, you can easily migrate. Just back up your database and move the files over. I’d probably do a fresh WP install and bring over your theme, content, and plugins…unless you did extensive customization.
