There will never be a replacement for having a good quality track to begin with….Sh*t in Sh*t out IMO…..I had the same problem but what i ende dup doing is gettign rid of alot of bad quality tracks….but if I liked the song enough I would buy a better quality copy…i rather have a fewer great quality tracks then a bunch of random good/okay/bad tracks…

have u tried platnium notes? I havent used it but it is one I hear based around alot. Its done by the same group that does Mixed in Key

I would be lazy and use adaptive limiters, Logic’s built-in one is kind of OK, Ozone et rest, you pay but then you could transparently raise the level. Or, just adjust the gain when you DJ, works the same way.

Thanx for the replies! Had a quick look today. Logic seems to be for mac only? ozone looks good but isnt cheap. so what does it do? is it a standalone program that processes the audio signal on the fly? or does it permamently change files? does it have to be installed in virtual dj? is it compatible with vdj? sorry about the many questions but vst’s are a new thing to me.

I plug the controller on a powered mixer. and so far, instead of adjusting the gain in the software i ve been increasing/decreasing the volume on the mixer which is far from best i know.

Oh I forgot this was for live DJ:ing as an output compressor/limiter…. So what I talked about were software plug-ins. There are various rack-based systems, maybe even smaller, but then you need to drag even more equipment to the DJ gig. Unless you use SoundFlower and route the output via another plug-in hosted environment for more processing.

I would not use compressors. Todays music is anyways overcompressed already and even less dynamics? No way.

Last few days i ve been looking like mad for vst plugins that will do the job. so what do you guys think of izotope ozone (more expensive) or bbe sonic maximizer (cheaper). Both supposedly can run as sound effects plugins “live” through virtual dj, apparently without much cpu usage. from what i gathered soundflower acts like a “bridge” between programs and plugins and its only for mac?
