Well the 4Trak has its own internal soundcard, so the audio interface isn’t necessary. Take that out of the setup and it may help you. Next, an XLR is a balanced cable, which essentially means you need two of them to get the full signal (a left output and a right output). By VCA do you mean RCA? If so, that is an unbalanced cable, which means it can transmit both signals with just one cord (that’s why it’s got two connectors, red and white–one goes in the left output and the other into the right).

As for the split cue, have you installed the 4Trak audio drivers? Do that first before plugging the 4Trak in or starting Traktor. After that, plug the 4Trak into your computer directly (without using the Focusrite interface), turn it on, then start Traktor. Start the Controller Wizard (it’s called something like that) and choose 4Trak as your controller. Finish the wizard and that should set you up correctly.

Haha yeah, I was pretty tired when I wrote this, I meant RCA. I’ve switched up my setup and played at Cobalt in DC, and I just ditched the soundcard and things went much better. One thing I did note, however, is that when I had my crossfader all the way down and the headphone button activated, sound was still coming out of the main speakers (albeit faintly). Also, both tracks were playing out of my phones (had split cue set, perhaps I screwed up on channel setting) instead of just the track I was trying to bring in..

As far as the drivers/controller setup, that was the first thing I did when I first received my 4trak. I think I’m making this much more complicated than it should be.

What if the Saffire 6 is a much better sound card? I’ve often wondered this. The soundcard on these “all-in-ones” don’t have the best reputations while the Saffire 6 does. Is it possible to use your controller and run your audio through another interface? I searched the forums for an answer to this question and came up with this thread. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

The soundcard in the Numark 4Trak is as top notch as it can get. No need to have a saffire in there.

You cannot have a crossfader down, its either left or right. Some crossfaders do bleed a little sound when all the way in one direction. If you can hear sound when your channelfader is down, then something is wrong in the audio settings or setup per se. Yes you always need both channels (2 XLR or 2 RCA) connected to the PA even if it is mono or you go into traktor audio settings and set both channels to mono (which will give you full master output on both channels).

The 4Trak can mix the master sound to the selected headphone cue, make sure how you set this mix and follow the manual to the point. Having only 1 channel selected at each time you put the headphones on (aka only 1 cue lights up) is needed to hear this single channel or it will create an awkward mix. Many beginners forget to deactivate a headphone cue on a previously pre-listened channel, it is something that just needs a bit of practice.
