    And since you’re our Ableton expert here, do you know of any warping tutorials—in particular, those that show how to warp difficult songs (like a 70s disco tune with a live drummer)? Thanks!

    Yes 🙂
    Give me two minutes and I will be back with one 🙂

    Hello Michael 🙂
    As I began to Explain in my Tutorial on Ableton Warping; with Disco Tracks (or Jazz; Rock and Blues); it is Important to Warp these Tracks (Luckily they are Usually Shorter than the EDM Tracks of today); either 4 Bars; or 8 Bars at a Time to get an Absolute Definition of where the (Human) Drum Beats lie;
    You can see some of this is my Screenshots on Page 2 of the following Thread:
    http://digitaldjtips.com/forum/threads/considering-ableton-for-djing.555/page-2

    However; as Promised I have found 2 Ableton Trainers who are Instructing on Ableton Warping in Video Form;
    If you have the time to watch these Videos I Feel you Will Find what it is you Need;
    And just before I give you the 2 Links; I will Quickly relate a Warping Challenge I Experienced with a Jazz Remix of ‘Grandmaster Flash – The Message’; Most of the Track was Okay; but there was this 16 Bar Phrase about half way through that would ‘Speed Up and Slow Down’; and although it took a good 15 minutes (as this was Severe); using the 8; 4; 2; 1 Bar Method; it Truly is Possible to Warp a Wolf Wailing in the Forest 🙂

    Here’s a link to check out their blog — http://www.themixtools.blogspot.com
    Here’s a link to DL a sampler pack of their edits — http://www.mediafire.com/?vmh1cpybh11be90 the pool has a fantastic selection of ReDrums, DJ Friendly intros/outros, Quick Hitters,
    Acapella intros/outros, Transition/Segue edits and more for all genres and eras of music. Furthermore unlike many record pools all their edits are
    QUANTIZED – meaning the song STAYS at 1 speed, or BPM – which is especially important when mixing music from the 80s and beforehand before a lot of the music was quantized, or for music with live drummers
    (Rock, Soul, Motown, Oldies, etc). this means that any DJ software will pretty much always get the bpm right the first time analyzing it!
    check it out- you WON’T be disappointed. The special DJ Edits from TheMixtools help me stay ahead of my competition

    looks a bit like advertisement to me… do you get paid by them?

    This is not true. Well, not entirely true. Traktor stores the info in both the nml as well as in the ID3 tags of the MP3. It can also store information in WAV files. Serato saves this information in the MP3 as well. Virtual DJ is the only software that I’m familiar with that saves the data to a library only and not to the file.
