MemberI think most hd are reliable, in my experience ive never had one crash, and yeah the look of a mac is nice but Ive got to the stage when I see an amature dj play I just immediatly think “sheep” just following the crowd most will never push it to its limits. I think my laptop looks fairly similar to a mac screen and keyboard-wise but was cheaper and nicer 🙂

Hello Steve;
My WD External Drive is 300GB and is Way Big Enough for what I want; and that is USB Powered; so I may have sent you to the wrong page; and if I did I apologise; but it is the WD ‘Passport’ Model you need that is USB PoweredAugust 23, 2011 at 10:11 pm #1001481steve_07

The page just loads all the WD hard drives. I just assumed you meant the first one on the list at the price in your post.
I now know what to look for 🙂

I couldn’t agree more. I may just get a hackintosh. Miles cheaper

MemberIve always fancied a mac. Easy, clean software, look good. Just very overpriced.

MemberI mean the hackintosh, because with one, your windows laptop has to work a shit load harder to run osx through windows and may put a strain on any computer

MemberThe dell mini 10v has the same chip set as a mac. I’ve done a bit of research and many say it’s just as quick and can cope with multiple programs.

MemberAs long as you dont fudge up your machine it will be good :), I looked into it before and turned out stuff like wifi, touchpad, keyboard even backlight and cd drive can stop working due to incompatable drivers

MemberThe dell mini 10v everything including wifi which usually doesn’t work should do on that machine. You can pick them up already hackintoshed on eBay.

Participant😮 yet another mac v pc debate oh dear :rolleyes:
I pressume you have looked on amazon, but want DJ specific advice. I was looking at external hard disks a year ago, I came to the conclusion to instead upgrade my laptop hard disk to 500gb 7200 rpm ie go larger and faster, also cheaper as you are just buying the drive. I felt that most external hard disks are much a like cheap and easy to break and mean more plugging in and out causing wear on my usb ports. Replacing your internal one means you can use the original as an external drive for backing up your key files – just buy the enclosure for something like £15, so it way better value for money.However, if you do want to go for external drives I would recommend the lacie drives with firewire support, its faster than usb and they have metal casing which protects them:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/LaCie-Rugged-500GB-All-Terrain-USB2-0/dp/B001AGFUTO/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1314202082&sr=8-3Yep its pricey, but I’ve known many people with WD drives who have taken them travelling ending up not working.

ParticipantWindows…Mac….just use what works for you.
I own an iPhone…just bought an Android tablet…and I mainly use Windows PCs.
Who cares about brands? Just use what works for you. In a few years we’ll hear about Macs selling like hotcakes, then back to Windows, then Mac, and so forth. Maybe a third player will jump in and suddenly they’ll be the cat’s meow.
