ParticipantI play progressive house, deep house & some tech house.
Spend my ££ on the above.
In terms of a track it’s very hard to say … just general flow, break downs, the highs & whether it makes me tap my foot or occasionally nod my head (!!) and if it doesn’t sound too daft, do I think that it will mix well?! I’m relatively new to DJ’ing and learning the ropes, so it’s one of my thoughts tbh.
I’d really say that I look to pick up on the tunes that some of my influences are playing (Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo, Darin Epsilon, Dale Middleton etc etc) and then go from there. You then learn which producers & remixers tend to make tracklists of the high profile guys and that’s a starting point to then go on and research some more tunes.
Hope that’s of some use & best of luck!

ParticipantWhat genre of music do you play the most as a dj?
Mainly Tech House, Deep House and Techno with a touch of Progressive House and Nu-Disco.What genre/s do you love the most?
Hard question but I have always loved French House and Chicago House in terms of Electronic Music, otherwise I listen to a wide verity of genres from hip-hop to metal to pop to classic rock. What genre have you spent the most money on?
Likely Tech House I think. As a dj, what do you look for in a track?
I look for tracks that I think sound unique and something that will work will in my sets. I try to find stuff I know both I like and other people will like too and that just flows and mixes well with the other music I already own and compliments it well while adding new elements to my sets.Best of luck on your online record label and your business course :D!

ParticipantWhat genre of music do you play the most as a dj?
At this moment, anything from top40 remixes, be it to be mash-up, the EDM remixes and yeah some J-Breaks (this is our local genre aimed at “wannabe” breakbeat)What genre/s do you love the most?
Pure House, somthing with more pumpin much more preferredWhat genre have you spent the most money on?
I enrolled in DJ Pool Promo thingie monthly, so i picked up to whataver I like they released it each week
Also for the J-Break genre, since you cant buy it nowhere, since its locally produced and not under major label, I made friends with them and local DJ’s myself so i can get the hooks-upAs a dj, what do you look for in a track?
SOmething unique, just not another remixes that other DJ’s plays, like transition to trap from 128-70-128 bpm transition, or if the “uniqueness” not there i edited it myselfJune 11, 2014 at 9:46 pm #2036873Warsuit
ParticipantWhat genre of music do you play the most as a dj?

-the depth and quality of the bass; a nice hard edge; a twist…it can’t be some standard filler, even a utility banger that won’t stand the test of time and only get played two or three times MUST have some twist to it that makes shout “yeah!” and jum out of my chair when I hear it the first timeJune 12, 2014 at 2:36 am #2036920Alchemy432

Belearic, Deep House, LoungeWhat genre have you spent the most money on?
I cannot remember. Not much on any as I used to get so much promos for free.As a dj, what do you look for in a track?
Variety, Energy and a good melody that makes the track stand out between the 200 generic releases per week.June 12, 2014 at 3:41 pm #2036981Daryl Northrop
ParticipantWhat genre of music do you play the most as a dj?
-Breaks and house (vocal/uk garage), some glitch and mid-tempo.
What genre/s do you love the most? Breaks
What genre have you spent the most money on? Breaks
As a dj, what do you look for in a track? I look for an interesting beat/bassline, and melody. Also, I try not to get tracks that are all structured the same. Too many EDM songs have a frantic buildup and drop that is just more cliche than anything else. I understand that tracks have to build up and release energy, but I look for songs that do it in a more sophisticated way.June 14, 2014 at 6:47 am #2037225Alchemy432
ParticipantCheers guys! great responses 🙂
Terry, I’ve never heard of belearic before I’ll have to look that one up!
Daryl, I hear ya about the drop 😉 as a producer its one of the most fun challenges I face, one drop variation that I quite like is kind of like a ‘reverse’ build up, loud to quiet rather than quiet to loud, example a gradual high pass/low cut on the drums till they get all hi perc sounding.. as long as you use something else like an increase in pitch or whatnot u can still build that anticipation..
thanks again everyone, I look forward to reading more, but for now its back to the mountains of work I still have left to do!
Peace.

Participantdammit, I said drop but I meant the build up leading to the drop… its all symbiotic anyway…

ParticipantWhat genre of music do you play the most as a dj?
//Hardstyle, Hardcore, Different kinds of House & Electro, Subground – all different kinds of subgenres and that stuff. I really need to specify myself in that topic 😀What genre/s do you love the most?
//phew, difficult to answer that. I really changes from time to time, atm it is Subground – but this can change from one minute to another. What genre have you spent the most money on?
//Hardstyle. My whole library is about 40% Hardstyle and 60% everything other 😀As a dj, what do you look for in a track?
// It should animate me to dance to it. It depends on what I like in the time I buy, sometimes it needs to be a bit on the harder side, sometimes it needs to have really good vocals with an actual meaning behind them or just something that can easily be sung by the crowd. The other mentioned things here are also important, for example the variety mentioned by Terry or that it needs to be interesting and something new and fresh, that others may dont play. But mostly I think whether I like that tune and not if the crowd will as much as I do. Maybe thats because I had no real big gigs so far with more than 30 people (where I mostly know they are going to like what I enjoy)…Hope that helped! 🙂
