LOL exactly!!! What I call B&B … “boobs & booze” music. The ladies love it and have a great time.

If someone likes playing the same Top-20 EDM over and over. Good for ’em. As you said, they get gigs, too. I could not stand it for more than 20 minutes. I would instead tweak the playlist and play lesser known EDM dance material and most likely a large dose of danceable nu-disco.

Instead of just locking into one particular set, have a guideline. I know my good openers, transitions, cooldowns, and closers and I have a feeling about where to use them but whatever I feel at the time is what I play. It gives you some sort of rigidity but also allows you to be quite flexible with your music selection.

Myself I will never play the same set twice. Ive posted this a few times but ill post it again.
The way I build my Sets is by doing showcase pieces…showcase pieces are anywhere from 2 to 5 songs that go REALLY well together…some may be just out right Banging and making everyone go nuts…while others may be a 2 song build when i want to change the energy in the room.

I then string my showcases together using 1 or 2 tracks to get a proper flow going. I will use the same showcases and sometimes when new tracks come out i will interchange one of the songs in a 5 song showcase.

I then will read the room and dictate what showcase i want to put where. If the room has been going nuts for 20 minutes then i will let the energy die down so i can build it back up. This is where the TENSION and RELEASE aspects of DJing really shine.

IMO NEVER play the exact same set twice…change it up play it backwards cut it in 1/2 do something different. By playing the same exact set over and over its like making a Mix CD and just hitting play.

I think Phil teaches the same technique of putting 2 to 3 songs together in his courses. I find it useful. I like how you gone the next step further in programming a set this way too. Very cool. It keeps it interesting and creative for sure.

because I am a mobile dj, here is my ‘set in stone guaranteed to play all in row and have the dance floor packed’ list. it never fails and is tried and tested for over 25 years.
    nutbush
    time warp
    macarena
    ymca
    grease mega mix
after I play these tracks (which are also my covert crowd reading songs) I insticntively know where the crowd wants to go weather it be top 40, rock n roll or club.
