ParticipantIn My Opinion As An Owner Of The DDJ-SX And The DDJ-SZ I Say That Pioneer Will Not Do In The SZ update More Than Extra Screens + The Price Will Very High
But The SZ Is Still A Rock And Will Not Die That Easy
Until Its Price And Usability Will Die It Will Take A long Time
As You Can See Now That The SX Is Still Rocking After The SZ
So I Think You Should Go With SZ
Personal Opinion

Participantthanks for the reply……but……when i bought the SX, the bastards bought out an SX2, sure the update to utilise flip, but it was still an update and would still effect the resale should it need to be resold (which in my case is always) :D.

Moderator@Deejay Willy: Please go easy on the Caps Dude!
@Slimboyfat: I am a mobile DJ too and personally (while I have the SX now and it’s ok) I have always preferred the Denon MC6000 for it’s mobile DJ features. It has the SX beat hands down imho.
Having said that, worrying about the next model is a useless passtime I think. It’s electronics and there will ALWAYS be something new coming out, next week, next month or next year. There is no timing that will give you great resell value, as they manufacturers won’t tell you new stuff is coming til shortly before it does. They too don’t want to hurt the sales of the remaining stock of the “soon to be previous version”.
You are clearly on a trial-and-error path here. And while that will eventually yield results (and enhance your hands-on knowledge and experience on many different controllers) it’s a time-consuming and costly affair, as you have already noticed.
It’s why we advocate a certain “process”, if you will.
* determine your (desired/expected) workflow. You have lots of experience and should be able to firmly set down your current workflow and what it is you want out of any upgrade.
* pick the software that fits your workflow the best.
* set a budget
* pick the two (max three) controllers that work well with your software and fit your budget. Try to get some hands-on with them (like at the retailer) and make your choice. There is NOBODY out there that can safely advise you on a particular controller. What might work for me (MC6000 either version) might be totally not for you and the other way around. All we can do is help you with the decision making process, based on our and many of our readers experience and knowledge.
As for the SX to SX2 upgrade, it really is a no-brainer unless you use Flip or DVS or go bollocks for RGB lights in your performance pads. Don’t use that? Then the SX will serve you just as well as the SX2. I have the SX and contemplate a move to MC6000. Should I stay with the SX, I am not gonna consider moving to the SX2.
Hope that helps some.

ParticipantHi Slimboyfat,
why didn’t you use your laptop with Pioneers new XDJ-RX for browsing?
i guess that would have been the best solution to you.regards,

Participant@DJVIntage – that’s some great advice there, appreciate it.
I think i summarised my own wants in my original post…..I loved the SX (i gave up DJ’ing for the 43rd time and sold it) I MUCH prefer Serato over Trakturd and I could budget an SZ….just….with some serious arm twisting
My post really was about investing (again) all of that money in something that is “old” within months – I get where you are coming from with a world of ever evolving technology and that you can never really be at the forefront for any more than 3 months these days – I was merely fishing to see if anyone knew of anything new so that I didn’t sit there going Doh!
I tired the MC6K a while back, its good!….but didn’t really set my nipples on fire.
@Kingofsnake – I did, I ended up patching in with the RJ45…..but then it defeats the object of having a standalone unit…..and unfortunately it lost 2 channels and a better array of control over the SX / SZ, because it was too busy being its own little special thing.

ParticipantIt sounds like you are suffering from a serious case of GAS – Gear Acquisition Syndrome!
Finding the work flow you want can be challenging at times, but resist the urge to get that mixed up with wanting the newest and greatest new thing. As Vintage said, the SX didn’t stop being an awesome controller because the SX2 came along, and unless you needed the very small number of new features it offers, the upgrade would actually be a waste of money.
Don’t worry too much about resale. A proper piece of DJ gear should be lasting years, not months, so no matter what you get the resale value will be limited.
All that said, it sounds to me like you might find some value in going the route I did. I was having a hard time finding an all-in-one that really ticked all the boxes for me. My MC6000 was great, I followed it up with a VCI-400 and loved all the extra pads and knobs and ability to totally customize how I had it mapped. But something was still lacking… I was about to get an SX2 but stopped myself. I eventually went back to modular. Now I have two SC2000s for transport controls, two Neons for pad functions, and run the whole lot to an X1600 mixer. If I need to add something else in, I can. If I need to pack lighter, I can take a few pieces out. I have options to make my workflow work for whatever show I’m doing. At the very least, if I stop liking a part of my workflow I’m not reinventing the wheel, just changing up one component. I’m not suggesting the same mix of equipment for you – just that you might do better with a bunch of parts than with an all-in-one.
Good luck!

ModeratorIf going modular was the only option left, I’d stop DJ-ing LOL. The charm of an all-in-one controller as opposed to dragging around hooking up and taking down separate pieces of gear has driven me crazy for TOO many years 😀

ParticipantEcho what Vintage says, the thought of modular is great…..its the function of one-unit-does-all that really appeals. nonetheless, good advice!

ParticipantFor the record, still fit all that into my backpack. Although I may need a chiropractor soon… haha
