Well not many DJs actually use in-ears. We like to have cans on our ears, so we can move them around for beatmatching etc.
So that is prolly why reviews are not there.

I shortly tested them for recreational use, but the quality was not up to bar with the price tag in my books.
There are better offerings from Sure, Etymotics, Tuefel or even Beats.

Oh, forgot to mention that … I don´t plan on using these primarily for DJing. Maybe these will go with me as backup, but I also prefer the security and flexibility of the more conservative headphones (using the Crossfade LPs most of the time). I just wanted something portable for trips, so the idea of compact in-ears came to my mind. I just wanted to get something good and Pioneer is known to last. For example the plug looks to be pretty sturdy – this is what I mostly break on Headphones I travel with. Overall they look pretty solid, but I´ve never seen them anywhere other than on pictures.
What exactly was it that you disliked in relation to the price?

    Hi there

Unfortunately I have to agree with Terry.

I picked up a pair of DJE-1500’s for exactly the same purposes as you (backup for DJing, general use) and I don’t use them for either. It’s difficult to nail down exactly what the issue is, but they just don’t feel right. From my perspective, I think they’re just too big. The fit is ok, but they’re quite heavy (for in-ears) which starts to get uncomfortable after a while.

Plus, the sound quality just isn’t there. The bass is ok but the highs are too tinny, making the sound unatural and nothing like any other pair of headphones I own (including a pair of Pioneer over-ears). I use a pair of Beyerdynamic DTX101’s for every day listening and they blow the DJE-1500’s out of the water for quality (for a 1/3 of the price).

In answer to your specific questions:

    Q. How well do they stay in?
    A. Pretty well, but they do get uncomfortable after a while

    Q. Is there some “strange feeling” when using them in the normal position (the cable in front and not over the ear)?
    A. It definitely doesn’t feel like the natural position. The cables are thick plastic, which don’t feel nice brushing your face

    Q. How is the bass – too less or too much?
    A. The bass is good. Probably could have been a little heavier but not lacking

    Q. How is the general build quality – do they seem to last?
    A. You get the feeling they will last and survive bangs and scrapes

I hope that helps. Obviously my comments are all very subjective I’m sure there are people out there who like them. Personally I wish I hadn’t bought them, as they barely get used!

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I already had concerns about them being too big. And this all sounds not that good either. I understand why they didnt take off like they could have when soundquality is not on the level the price is at.
I think I wont buy them now, except I’m running in some crazy sale on these (like half the price). Or maybe phil would need someone to review them … 😀
Big thanks to both of you helping me out!

If you’re looking for other options – start here: http://www.whathifi.com/awards/2014/in-ear-headphones any headphones on there will work and sound great.

I use a pair of beyerdynamic dtx 101 ie ‘s as my portable headphones and they are nothing short of awesome – A great, balanced sound and great quality – they won in the 2012 and 2013 awards from the same site http://www.whathifi.com/beyerdynamic/dtx-101-ie/review

I would definitely buy another pair (but maybe the version with mic/remote on it – the mmx 101 it http://www.whathifi.com/beyerdynamic/mmx-101ie/review)

    Hope this helps 🙂

Edit: Just noticed that beyerdynamic have updated the earphones – but only changed the lead slightly… and renamed them the “102s” – So now the 101’s are super cheap on amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004LX8Y0U/ref=s9_simh_gw_p23_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1PWKE9JMAQ2EVSFG2WNG&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=455344027&pf_rd_i=468294) 🙂

You need double drivers for djing with in-ears, so that eliminates the 1500’s outright. Have a look at the Shure ones, they are awesome. DJing with in-ears can be good (crisp sound, less strain on your hearing), provided that you keep them in a normal volume, otherwise you’re only making things worse. I find them pretty much useless as I like to walk around every once in a while and disconnecting myself every time I go more than two meters from the set is really annoying. I use normal headphones with earplugs.

Since when do you “need” double drivers for djing?? I’ve used my single driver beyerdynamics for djing when ive not had my over ears to hand – and had no issues. The main reason i use over ears instead are their more robust than little buds – not because of functionality at all
