I do not think so. The base power requirement of the unit draws more current than most USB batteries allow and you could even run the risk of having the battery explode if it is an LiIon battery pack.
Also I cannot imagine what kind of PA would run on battery to be sufficiently loud for even 15 people outdoors, as you would easily need at least 200-300W for 15 people outdoors, which would come to A LOT of power needed.

Roland BA-330 (http://www.rolandus.com/products/details/1025/456) will run on 8 penlites (about 6-10 hours depending on volume).

PLENTY loud for 15 pax, stereo speaker in one case!

VERY good sound quality, I use one on occasion. If you happen to be a sing-a-song writer too, you can hook up mic, guitar, stereo source (for instrumental tracks) and get reverb with it as well.

It’s by no means cheap, but absolutely the best portable solution I have seen, apart from Fohhn, but that’s a different ballgame.

Yeah might work for 10-15 people, I doubt the playtime though and your CO2 footprint is really bad with those Alkaline batteries… and after 10 parties you prolly have enough money wasted on batteries to buy a small generator :O

Tss tss tss you can have such a bleak outlook on things sometime :-p.

Playtime IS that long (experience speaking here). Don’t expect stumping bass of course, although there is bass there.
The thing plays on normal power too. You can always get two sets of rechargeable batteries (run time will be significantly less, as usual with rechargeables) and with an extra battyholder swap time is about 30 seconds.

It really sound a LOT better than just about every other tailgater I have heard. This product is designed with the professional musician in mind, who wants great quality sound and decent volume. It lives up to that premise, really.

I am a pessimist when it comes to “wondrous PA miracles” and I want good sound when I hear music. Hence why tin can style bass or missing frequencies just do not cut it for me… and since I do not want that, I would not do it to my audience.
But I know I am a bit harsh on the topic and there are people who do not give a damn, like my neighbours kids dance to music in their carport coming from iPhone speakers… I hate like iPhone speakers sound…
On the other hand I think a DJ should know what good sound is and not drop below a certain standard.

I concur, I am a stickler for quality too. My wife has an Alesis TransActive Mobile. She uses it for the occassional 10-15 people presentation/training. It is ok, but not perfect. You can sit your iphone/ipod touch in it and it get’s charged as well.

We also use it when we have a BBQ out front with the neighbours.

It suits the purpose (somewhat), but is nothing I’d want to advertise, let alone recommend.

The Roland is a different story. However, the only way to convine you is for you to find one next time you are in your gear shop and have a listen ;-).

Be prepared to be surprised, I know I was when I heard it the first time.

I will try to talk him into checking that thing out and give it a listen.
