At this level of gear (and the accompanying price tag) I would not buy a controller for someone else. Get creative on the computer and give him a “DJ Gear Gift Card” for a certain amount and let him pick. It’s a highly personal choice that needs insight in your workflow, your preferred software and you wishlist of features. I am DJ and I would not consider buying my best DJ friend a controller, because of those reasons.

It’s a wonderful thought though. Again, just give him a gift card. That way he can get what fits him best (which could very well be one of the many other controllers out there, like the Denon MC6000 or the Reloop Terminal Mix just to name two) and not worry about hurting your feelings by having to go and exchange the gift for something else because it doesn’t fit his way of working or software for example.

Again Kona, it’s a highly personal choice. None of us could ever, in good conscience, suggest the “best” controller for someone else (it’s hard enough picking the best one for yourself at times, LOL).

If he has been talking about the SX2 (great controller btw), I’d get him that one. While the NV is a nice controller too, it’s different and he might not be too charmed by the screens (I, for example, would not want them). And/or he might have a strong desire towards Pioneer as brand. All in all, they are both good controllers, but if I am to give any advice at all, go for the SX2 (might want to look out for one of the “collectors” editions in white, gold or something, if he is into that sort of thing).
