ParticipantCan you mix and record with Serato DJ without having a controller plugged in like you can with Traktor Pro?

Participantno you can’t if the SX is not connected Serato DJ goes into ofline mode and you only have acces to 1 deck

ParticipantThanks for the heads up Gulli. I wonder if this is a legality issue with the use of Serato in general because VDJ and Traktor Pro allow one to mix and record without the use of a controller.

ParticipantCan anyone do a comparison on sound quality?
I still to this day find the S4 not as comparable to CDJs…i have done a million little tweaks and i can get my S4 to sound ALMOST CDJ quality but it still does lack a little bit and it is definately noticeable.Im going to be shifting to a DJM800 and 2 CDJ2000s in HID mode pretty soon, just for the ease of setting up at shows and so i dont have to bring my S4 with me everywhere i go.
As much as i love the DDJ-SX…once it gets here it may end up never leaving my home DJ booth.

Participant@Coltrane09,
The thing with Serato DJ is there are no demo versions the download is the full version, but when you buy a controller a part of the price is a licents to use the software so it will work only with suported controllers. VDJ home will let you record but you can use a controller unless you have and iPhone or iPad, to take full advantage of rekording and using a controller you will need a Pro version of VDJ. Traktor you’ll also need a full version to take advantage of everything if you plan to use it for more then 30 days. But Traktor is really cheep now and you get a full version with all their DJ hardware.
@Hee Won Jung I have yet to test it along side CDJ’s but in 2 weeks I’ll try the same setup you’r planing on getting I’ll bring the DDJ SX with me also so I can make a comparisone.December 4, 2012 at 12:55 am #33092Dixon Chen
ParticipantCan VDJ record audio or only VDJ PRO? Its so expensive to buy Traktor in Malaysia around Rm500 x.X Every Dj stuff is so expensive here

ParticipantYes the VDJ Home can record audio but can only be controlled by mouse and keyboard. There Virtual Remote for iPhone and iPad also works with Home. But you could buy Traktor from Native instruments site for only €79 or $100 Traktor Demo works only 30 mins at a time then needs to be reopened 🙁
You can download VDJ home for free and play with it and record your mixes but you need to use mouse and keyboard. you can use controllers for 10 minutes at a time with VDJ home.December 4, 2012 at 1:31 am #33095gullum

it kind of like many DAW work you need a usb dongel for them to work. I have Reason 6.5 it needs a dongle and to get the Line 6 pre sets from my line 6 pod to work in Reason. So that 2 USB ports just to run the program add a sound card midi keyboard and Maschine it’s fast to run out of ports.

Keymaster@ Hee: According to the Pioneer Support the DDJ SX has the same 24-bit soundcard that all the Pioneer pro gear has, so it should be on par with most of their top end offerings and according to several tests it has excellent sound quality.

How do you guys transport your DDJ-SX?
I need a bag or case next month to travel, i saw this case on facebook,
but i am not sure if its to heavy or big for transportation on a plane, a bag might be better but not when it comes to safety. Anybody here, who have experience with traveling by plane? I will go overseas, a 10 hour flight…
thank you!! 🙂May 9, 2013 at 10:55 am #40130af.shawn998
Participanti would go with a bag. i have that exact case with my ddj-sx now and its heavy as can be. its not really long but its super thick. it’ll protect your pioneer with no problem. but its way to heavy to be traveling with. i would go with a bag.

KeymasterThe Zomo Case is excellent and built like a tank, but then it is a flightcase. So while it will offer a maximum of protection, it is also very heavy. It is OK if you go to every venue by car or have the comfort of having the stuff you fly around with delivered to the venue.
If you do not plan on flying with the controller, but still want a good amount of protection and portability, I would take a closer look at the Magma line of bags. They have a new deluxe bag that also comes in a XXL version that can fit the DDJ-SX and the laptop and cables and you can still carry it all on your back. Surely you do not want to run a marathon with it, as the SX alone is heavy, but it is extremely portable and the cushions in the bag protect the gear very well.May 12, 2013 at 10:10 am #40240nick greek

ParticipantIt’s a nice piece of equipment……. but why is the jog wheel aluminum or whatever material they used? FINGER PRINTS! I hate that!
Just realized I don’t know how to do those smiley faces or anything on this forum…!?
